| I don't know which books you're talking about....but I wouldn't recommend the two that I own......maybe Harrington on Hold'em series....the two Negreanu books I know about you can go into your local bookstore/coffeeshop and read them both in an hour. |

| I'm positive you could find it online...there are 3 of them...they cost 29.95 each. You MIGHT be able to find them a couple dollars cheaper from Amazon...or if you have a used bookstore around....book 3 you might want to buy new..as it is full of little quizzes..and it could possibly be written in....which wasn't bad when you were in 9th grade math class...but...anyhow... Good luck to ya..... |

| re: Poker books.. I just finished reading the Full Tilt Poker Stategy Guide Tournament Edition/ Games discussed are: no limit hold-em limit hold-em pot limit hold-em pot limit omaha omaha eight or better 7 card stud stud eight or better razz authors are some of the most notable pros in the game today Chris Ferguson Andy Bloch Ted Forrest Huck Seed Mike Matusow Howerd Lederer Gavin Smith Phil Gordon Keith Sexton Rafe Furst David Grey Richard Brodie I really enjoyed the overall flow of this book & the concepts discussed involving stating hands, position, statistical charts rating against random hands, short stack play, big stack play etc. I own about 10 poker books including some of the one's mentioned. There are positive aspects you can learn from all of the books mentioned. I am of the opinion this one of the better one's available for concepts & insights of tournament poker as it has helped my game immensely in a very short amount of time. The Harrington series are next on my list of books to own. I have seen & heard a lot of positive things about them on this forum & would assume they would make a great addition to any poker book collection. |

| The best book for a first book is: The Intelligent Guide To Texas Hold'em by Sam Braids.. This 180 page book covers most of the basic concepts and is readable. You can buy all these books mentioned at abe books or amazon as used books. The next choice would be the harrington books particularly the section on heads-up play. | To add in 2 cents... I am admitedly not the brightest bear, but if you are reading a poker book like you read a novel, you aren't getting it. There are certain areas that read like a typical 'book' but for the most part, the concepts presented need to be understood. Kind of like a math book from school. You don't curl up by the fire and a glass of wine to read your math book. There are ideas and concepts that need to be tried on the table, and 'made your own'. In fact, many of the better books listed here (Harrington is a great example) CAN NOT be read only once and then you 'get it'. No way. There's just no way you can cram 50 years of experience in 400 pages and have an ametuer read it and understand it like the author. Re read the books that make sense to you and your game. You'll be amazed and what you missed and forgotten. Cheers |

| I just finished part 3 of Harrington and I am reviewing the mistakes I made, I feel I have learnt a lot from these 3 books. But I would like to know if there is a book that goes further than Harrington, I would like to read some more about the loose aggressive style cause I think it would suit my game better. I read good things on 'Kill evryone' by Lee Nelson, anybody read this ? Anyway the HOH series is very good and kept me out of trouble and in the money quite a few times but I feel I am still missing something to win more instead of just finishing in the money. |

| One book you have to read is the SUPERSYSTEM by Doyle Brunson... He is the biggest legend in poker and a true cowboy poker playerr hah. Some ppl think that is book is kinda out of date since ppl have changed their styles durring the ages, but i mean that might be even more of a reason to read the book. You want to see other sides of the poker world... old and new combined, to actually master this game... Just imagine the SUPERSYSTEM by Doyle Brunston like a kind of ART OF WAR by Sun Tzu heheh . |

| re: Poker books.. if you go to strategy articles you'll find an interview with daniel. he recommends super system 2, he says if your going to buy only one book this should be it. i boought it and i'm really enjoying it, i was surprised since doyle's not my favorite, but he gets all my respect and admiration. other than that of course harrington 1-3, phil gordon, and sklansky. the books are mostly to inform you so you can take all that you read to the table, keep all that in the back of your head, so you can make easier decisions. plus you should always work on your own style. peace and gl. |

1- Sit & Go Strategy by Colin Moshman, it is a STT book that very eloquantly explains high blind play, stealing and restealing that is applicable in MTT's as well. 2 - Professional No Limit Hold'em by Ed Miller, et al. Ed Miller was the co-author of No Limit Hold'em thoery and practice. What he is able to do in this book is give you have great foundation for playing No Limit Cash Games in what he calls REM, Range, Expection, and Maximation. Also covered is commitment and Stack to Pot Ratios. Both are highly recommended. Edit: Here is a link you mind find of interest. |

I'm of the opinion that you need to get information from many sources. Pull the best information from each one. I have a thing about people who sell "how to books". If their ideas are so great why are they sharing them. hmmm must be that they can make more money from selling books on a topic than they can on what they are writing about. But seriously, I imagine they enjoy sharing their thoughts and having a side income isn't bad either. |

| Maybe YOU can't curl up by a fire and enjoy a good math book, but when I was young, I could. Alas, I'm old now, and can't even curl up anymore. After a year of online poker I bought my first book, 1000 Best Poker Strategies and Secrets. By Susie Isaacs. I bought it purely cause it was the cheapest book there that day. She cheated. It is 1000 short paragraphs each with a slightly different take on a situation. The situations evolve thru the book so she does make it through all the games with little tidbits of stuff I know, but often forget. Then I bought HoH. Probably need to reread them for the 3rd time. But both sit next to me in the reading room, and I find that the 1000tips is what I pick to read. I can read thru 10 at a sitting, and get as much as reading thru a HoH hand or two. SS, and SS2 are essential reading, but don't get SS if you don't have to. SS2 is the update. BTW, IMO, they are both overpriced. For anyone contemplating buying their first book, I would suggest you read all of F. Paulsons stuff, and ChuckTs stuff here, Try for a month to play exactly what they say to play, not some variation, but exactly what they write. Work on understanding what it is they are saying. You can be sure you will very likely improve your game so much that the urge to buy a book will be diminished at least some. After that month, you will still be a noob, but you will have your mind into the game in ways that defy description. |
