pocket jacks

I can not seem to play pocket jacks right. If I only do a standard 2 to 3 times the blind raise I end up getting burnt. If I go all in pre flop I end up getting burnt. If I slow play them I get burnt. I hate pocket jacks. Does anyone have any suggestions?

There are 3 ways you play can play JJ, and every one of them is wrong.

No but honestly against aggressive and loose opponents play them very very strongly.

Against a tigher player you can considering throwing them away to a big reraise.

You are right, jacks are incredibly hard to play correctly.

In my very limited experience, I would recommend as follows:

Try to take the blinds immediately - maybe raise 4 x bb. A small win is better than a big loss.

If you get a caller, chances are they have high cards - A, K or Q.

If flop is all cards lower than AKQ, bet VERY big - maybe all-in.

If any higher cards flop, try a reasonable bet. If you get a caller, you need to back off.

If you happen to flop a jack - woohoo - enjoy!!

If your having trouble playing them, play them like tens, pock tens seem to be easier on the basis players dont fall in love with tens like they do with jacks. So play them more cautiously like you would do with tens

Here's how I play JJ postflop. If I raise and get callers what to do depends on the flop and the number of callers. Against one caller and 1 overcard on the flop I'll bet very strongly but back off if he reraises. Against 1 caller and 2 overcards still bet. Against 2 callers and 1 overcard, bet but back off if they raise. Against 2 callers and 2 overcards on the flop check and fold. Against a lot of callers, like 3+, check fold if there's 1 overcard on the flop because chances are at least one of your opponents has top pair. And against any number of callers and no overcards bet very very aggressively and probably go all the way with it. If there are three overcards (AKQ or maybe if the flop came AK 7 then just check fold. A play I see a lot of players make is raising with JJ and just getting 1 or 2 callers and then checking when there's only 1 overcard on the flop, like a flop of Q 7 3. I think this is too defensive and the best play is definetly to bet to see where you stand.

Good advice...I didn't look at it that way and it's really quite simple.
