| Playing poker for beginners. A fellow Railbird player was getting upset as he can't seem to win. Hang in there. I'm having the same problem on the felts as I have only been at it for 3-5 months. I have a great Railbird friend and he is a local friend that was a member of a running club that I was president of. He plays a lot and wins, wins, wins. He has taught me many things about poker on the PC (it's not like the kind I played in the Marines back in the 50's). I've played many of the tournaments and seemed as though I was so dumb at it. My friend taught me to be patient, don't spend chips on a wild goose chase for straights/flushes, etc. I've learned to concentrate on folding/folding/folding, until I get something that I feel like has real possibilities. I used to bet all in on a whim and then -- bye bye. Also I was playing SnG play money tables (normally 9 players) to get the feel for competition. Using that format appears to be helping and as of the last 2-3 weeks, I have moved into the $1.20 SnG tables using that format and you wouldn't believe the improvement. Not winning much money, but at least I'm learning how to read others play. Still have a problem playing the 40-90 games as it is so hard to hold on until the end and at my age, I get worn out and end up falling back into my old ways and then I'm gone. Have the good weekend. bostonbilly/boston1993. I play Full Tilt 95% of the time. |

It's just that the more age you have, the more "old ways" we have to fall back on...and they are usually bad habits that we must overcome in order to be a success. We have to "learn" from our past if we are going to be a success in our future...poker and in life. Remember how hard it was to break bad habits such as "smoking" or "drinking" or "cussing" or ? That is "learning" from past bad habits, my friend. Wally |
