Playing out of position

I always hear people saying how good later position is, how much you can loosen your starting hands up, etc. However, it seems to me that every once in a while playing from early positon can be a benifit. Not in small or micro levels, where alot of people don't know very much about poker, but in the higher levels alot of people give alot more respect to an early raises, or re-raise. It just seems like you can have alot more bluffing power and can keep people guessing on what you actually have. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I think you are right....if you feel pretty secure that you have presented a tight image to the table, it will allow you to bluff from early position.
Players will often "discount" a bet/raise from late position...with good reason.

You don't need to wait until you are playing at the higher levels, you can make this work in any game where folks are paying attention. Varying how you play is always a good idea, and bluffing now & then can pay off whether you win that particular hand or not.

Any "advantage" you think you may have it does not make up for the fact you are playing OOP all hand. You are in many more tough spots, have very little chance at controling the pot, and will have a much harder time getting your big hands paid.

You also do not know anything about anyone's cards, so betting light UTG to try to seem like you have the nuts wont matter if someone else does.

Thats not to say to only play premiums, you will have to mix up your ranges as you get above the micros, but people folding those hands to you is a bonus, not the intention of the play.

re: Playing out of position poker

well i agree with you in some way. raising in early postion will make more respect from your opponents because they know that you have a good combination. but the bad thing is that if more than 3 people enter in the pot or if someone just re raise your bet then you will be with a very tought decision of how to play your hand. however i think that playing in late position has more adventajes than early position

best thing to do is don't do it. don't play out of position unless you have the nuts.

I play a fairly tight game and I will play a few non-premium hands OOP, but only if I have gone to showdown and won with big hands previously.

Would say I have taken a better share on the win side compared to the losing side.

your points are actually valid. ive heard the phrase that "under the gun is the new button" which basically means at higher stakes, especially tournies, as players have adapted to button, cut off steals, they have to find new ways to take blinds and raising utg light can be more profitable than raising in later position where your likely to get 3-bet

i dont tend to bluff 2 often but i found my bluff raises utg seem to work better then my bluffs when im last to act i think its because people tend to not think so much about utg bluffs but if your last to act bluffs r more of a possibility
