Playing Freerolls

I noticed that most players play a lot mire loose than normal when it comes to freeroll tourneys. Altough I usually do decent, I was wondering what your strategies are for surviving in them. Do you play loose like the rest of them, or do you start out tight and slowly get more aggresive?

I play only my best hands, let them take each other out. For me most important is to get to the second break. Never made it to the final table, though. Was wondering what the best strategies to get there are?

Lately, I've been doing horrible in freerolls, mainly becuase I'm not getting good cards at all. When I have a decent hand, another player has one better. Somtimes it doesn't matter how you play it, you will lose. The best thing to do is wait for the best cards, take a few chances, and bluff is you think you can get away with it.

playing freerolls is great, bc it allows you to play like its free money, and wen u can play without fear you will do much much better

See the flops whenever there's no raise, no matter what your cards are. If you have a solid hand, see the flop as long as there's only one raise. Obviously play top cards like you would in any tourney.

I guess my luck changed. i placed 9th in pokerhost $100 freeroll. It's only $4 but still.

wait for a really good hand, and when it comes you have to bet aggressively and take some risks.

Mood-driven for me as well, plus I've kind been experimenting with both loose and tight. Haven't played enough yet to have much preference either way though.

got wait for hands. but still you will get beat with some bad luck. sometimes, players will make you go all-in preflop. and you have the best hand, but crap cards come, and you get beat. because they played 6/4 off suit.

i got 7th in the $500 freeroll at Pokerhost, and got $22. not too shabby.

Lately I've had the worst luck at playing freerolls,only play the good cards and after the flop can't catch nothing to go on. If I'd stay on what I threw out a lot of times I would've won,but can't do that. I play if I was using my own money,but a lot don't take it seriously. Any suggestions on this? Thanks for listening. You have to be patient of course.Something im not good at.Play really solid hands at the beginning,then mix it up later .When they switch you tables you got to learn to go with th flow.

When I play in the free-rolls, I have learned to inderstand that most people who are all-in before the flop of the first hand are the ones not to worry about to much later on in the tourney. Depending on where the button lands on the first hand, I either limp in on the blind or fold and sit back and watch the table and get that valuable info that I would need later on in the tourney if someone is gettin lucky enough to win an all-in hand with a 2-7 offsuit and go all in and pull a miracle out of their buttox.

I tend to play suited hands and faces early on and allow the "all-iners" to wein themselves out of the tourney on their own.

As the tourney continues, I may play a weaker hand depending on the situtaion of the table. When you have 2000 people in a free-roll and 1900 of them are just there to be there just because it was free, they tend to play loosely and in my opinion do not learn alot from their playing.

I have noticed one thing in free-rolls I attend, I am either going to be among the first ones out after the yahoo's have donated all of their chips to the other players or I am in the top 50 remaining.

Sasha_D you said it all. I do that too and i stay in the tournaments longer

oh the joys of freerolls lol. i tend to end up in the final 10% of any freeroll i play, and one reason is because i only play 20% or less of my hands. I know some people who play 50+% of their hands hoping to get lucky and usually dont.

you will run into those people who get lucky early on and gather some chips up, but dont let their play influence you. Playing your hands and the table will tend to get you a lot farther than sheer luck.
