If I think the BTN is stealing. I just shove it preflop from the blinds. Most of the time, they fold. Other There are only 4 hands preflop you are in terrible shape against. You aren't gonna get paid off too often when postflop you hit anyway... unless the other guy is willing to commit a big portion of his stack with a mediocre hand. I don't like betting out of position or calling with AQ when I have air and I dunno where I am. Post flop OOP, I may put out one bet depending on board texture and how many others in the hand. But normally I would just fold it (without any draws) unless the other guy was an absolute maniac, but in that case, I would likely have just shoved preflop.

Erm, Im split on this - AQ is a tough one. I have lost some big pots with this, but also won some tasty pots. The other day I flopped K J 10 which was nice ha ha ha. OOP I would say get in as cheap as poss and see a flop. If you come up against any real resistance, let it go. Just my thoughts though...

If you think he's stealing you have to play it for value. That means 3-bet most of the time but don't shove what the hell? |

I like to play it passive OOP. Just call and see the flop. Try to keep the pot small. If the button is really tight, it's easy to fold (also if there's lot af action preflop). 3bet every now and then against a weak/tight or if you think button is stealing to pick up pot preflop. Don't 3bet anyone else than the button unless you have reads on the villain being loose.

If I flat call or 3 bet against these guys, they will call. And most of the time, the flop will miss me, making it hard to play when the villain is gonna be betting behind me. I rather get my money in there ahead a vast majority of the time and see all 5 cards, then to be calling or raising into a pot when I have air on the flop and could very well be behind. I am not suggesting people should do it every hand or against everyone. |

re: playing AQ OOP in 6maxNL poker Assuming you will be heads up, why not play it as if it were HU from the git go? Which would dictate a 3 or 4 bet. In 6 max games there is no EP. OK UTG technically has to be considered EP, but in reality the 6 max format sort of says he is CO-2 or late MP, suggesting the ranges anyone bets with at a 6 max game are enlarged, engorged even. So you are left with whatever stats you have on villain to help you determine whether you come out strong or limp along to trap.

As always it depends on your competition. A call is a satisfactory play but it can get you into way too much trouble; I would prefer a reraise to see if you can push out people, that way you can gauge their strength a bit better and you are spending in advance to get info rather than getting sucked in on the flop. And the best thing to do if you don't know where you stand is just get the hell out. Remember Skalansky's first rule is it takes a strong hand to call a raise then make one.

Usually if I am one the blinds if its button that raises I will 3bet. If an earlier positon raises with AQ suited I would usually call but with AQ off it usually depends on opponent. Like tight opponent I might fold but with loose opponent I call maybe even 3bet. If UTG raises I prolly fold, suited I might call.

This is 6 handed! What he raising with?? A Q 6 handed is great hand. id shove preflop too. The reason why? 1) show people i wont be pushed around, they less likely raise in future 2) its a great hand anyways and only 4 hands r better. 3) steal the chips already in pot. People raise with small pairs, any ace etc in 6 handed. Theyd fold and you pick up the pot. Too many good reasons to shove.

UTG is still UTG, even in 6-max. Yes there might be some more bluffs that you'd fold UTG in FR but your default assumption should be UTG is not stealing. You can fold AQo in the SB vs. a tight UTG opener, you just are never going to flop something where both of you get stacks in and you're really happy about it.

re: playing AQ OOP in 6maxNL poker raise if you are first to act even UTG, odds are it is going to the the best hand preflop in 6max. postflop you are just going to have to play according to the stats you have on a villain. i would not get it all in pre unless i am up against a very loose player.

Its a fairly obvious play to open with it in just about any position in 6 max. Its in the blinds oop that I face some tough decisions. I hate calling with it oop but I m not gonna go all in with it preflop either. And though its 6max I think u still gotta respect an UTG raiser. Ur not gonna win many big pots with AQo in blinds vs UTG raiser. If suited then I call and see flop maybe even raise occasionally.

I normally 3-bet AQ and fire a cbet into the flop, depending on texture. If you're facing resistance, just let it go and wait for a better spot. This is an interesting discussion. I always have problems with this hand in 6-max which I'm still trying to get to grips with.

Yeah I thought it be interesting discussion. About 2 weeks ago I started playing mostly all 6max. And AQ in the blinds against a raise has seemed to be where my toughest decisions have been. I am always happy to take it down with a 3bet against late position raiser cuz most of time u won't hit flop and when u do and other guy calls ur cbet u r usually in trouble at that point. Against UTG or UTG+1 raiser is where toughest decision is. Best play to 3bet, call, or maybe just fold? I don't know, I have done it all.
