Playing against an overpair in 7-card stud

I was playing one of the 7-card stud fixed limit freerolls on party poker and faced this scenario.

One of my opponents had 2 aces showing on the board, and I had 2 pair on 4th street(none of my pairs showing showing), so what do you do when he bets? Do you fold, raise or flat call him all the way?

He was a tight/aggresive player, so I expected him to bet every street even if he only had the 1 pair of aces. As to my 2 pair I only had 3 outs to make it a full house. At the time the antes were 15, bring in was 50 and the limits were 100/200. The pot hadn't been raised before 4th street. Both me and my opponent had around 3,000 left.

The high board will generally feel obligated to bet every street. With aces showing I would generally expect them to have 2 pair and bet accordingly. With only 3 outs for the boat your odds are not great and I would not expect to be able to push them out of the pot unless you have a scare hand on the board (4 flush, 4 straight, both your pair, etc.) For me, this is a call or fold as their high pair would beat my high pair if we both ended up with 2 pair...

I agree with Dave here. I've been playing a lot of 7 card recently and have seen this scenario quite a bit. I would not have raised unless I hit that boat, but I would have called to the bitter end unless he had trips or two pair up.

That is a situation where numbers alone will not give you the answer it is simply a judgement call. If you think you have him raise it up. If you don't have him fold and get out the way. Most often in a marginal situation if you can't answer the raise or fold question then fold. Also if the pot had not been raised it likely was a small one and not worth the risk.

Well I decided to play the hand to the bitter end and call all the way. I won the hand, but after thinking a lot about it, and running it through an odds calculator I'm beginning to think it was the wrong play. The odds calculator I used said he was a 56% favourite if he only had 1 pair, and he could easely have trips or 2 pair on 4th street. Besides it was a lot of money risked for winning that fairly small pot. So next time I think I will lay down my hand and wait for a better spot.

Raise 4th, fold if reraised, proceed depending on reads if called (very generally speaking if opponent would call down with just AA then keep betting, if not then probably best to check-fold 5th unimproved).

I know bugger all about Stud really, so take that with a pinch of salt, but it seems like the best way of going about things to me.

Edit: Also it's important we know the action went before 4th. If he'd raised on 3rd, he could well have trips or a better 2 pair, if not then you're likely ahead.
