Playing A23 in Razz

Been playing a bit of full ring limit cash Razz lately.

Wondering how to play really good starting hands like A23. Do you cap the betting or just one raise and wait for 4th street? Lets say 2 others in the pot, one showing a 4 and the other showing a 7. You raise and its reraised back to you.

How does your door card affect things, i.e. A23 vs. 23A?

Also, is there any difference at all between 23A and 45A?

razz is a limit game if you believe that you are ahead which is the case with A23 I think, since you are getting the best of it, that it is best to put in as many raises as you can especially when you are being reraised by a 4 or 7 however there are a few thing to consider in general.
If the game is a tight game then you should think about who is likley to play with you want the pot to be as big as possible going into the 4th street, in most cases making a raise is the best way to do this, if you early to act then you should most likley make the raise, however if you are in a late position say the bring and one other player to act behind you and you get many folds from the eariler positions the consideration of just calling might be your best option. All this said it might sometimes be in your best interest to pick up the pot early, it is razz after all. oh and im no razz expert so i could be way off the mark its just what i think.

I like to cap the betting on 3rd- and will continue betting hard on 4th. I will also bet hard on fifth unless I draw really crappy and a lot of the cards I need are dead or exposed.

The reraiser's intention is to isolate the good hand. Let's say 7 has something like (A4)7- it is certainly to his advantage to raise in order to 1)see if you're for real [you could easily be bluffing since you're showing the lowest door card] 2)to isolate and hopefully go heads up. 3 handed, your odds are greatly diminished.

There is no difference in A23 vs 23A if a perceptive player has a good read on his opponent. There are times where it becomes painfully obvious what someone has in the hole.

oh- and FYI A23 vs. A45 is virtually a dead heat.

There are a few factors here you need to consider. You only have 3 low cards. Your hand isn't made yet.nYou have to take a look at what is on the board first. If a lot of low cards are out then I would cap the betting. If there are a lot of high cards you can raise but I still might want to cap it. Capping allows for more chasers to build the pot. 4th and 5th is where you really want to hit hard.
Unless of course your hand doesn't complete. Then capping is the best bet. The thing you have to remember about Razz, it's not the lowest of your cards that matter but the lowest of your highest that does.

You should build the size of the pot but do not raise too much until you have the lo achieved.

A23 and 346 are basically the same strength hand...3 baby cards...and you still need 2 more card to make a good hand...so dont go too crazy on 3rd street since a good starting hand in razz can turn into crap very fast. so yes...just 1 raise and wait for 4th street is the better choice.

This is pretty much verbatim what I was going to say. I would be a lot more concerned with raising to isolate, depending on my position relative to the better, the number of people in the hand, and our stacks, etc.

I used to watch Razz and hear the players talk about how frustrating it was, but I never really understood until I started playing. It's simply incredible how quickly an amazing hand can turn to utter garbage.

Equities run very similar for low hands on 3rd street with all other factors being equal. Factors which should influence how you play the hand are the dead cards (for example I might even fold 3rd with this hand if there were lots of action before me and 3 4's, 2 5's and 2 6's were all dead/up cards for the other players), the smoothness of your draw (obviously it doesn't get better than A23 in that regard), and the number of opponents you're up against. If there is a completion and a raise before you, I might even just smooth call on 3rd depending on how live my hand was. If there were several of my cards "up" in others' hands, I'd be more inclined to push the betting to a cap.

Remember, there are no made hands even on 4th street in razz, unlike stud hi or other games.

I agree with the others that said you still need 2 more cards to make a good hand. I have been dealt A23 in RAZZ followed by all paint. I love playing RAZZ, but it can be so frustrating at times.
