Hi
Currently I am playing 1$ SNG's and find myself with a problem. I find myself playing these tournamnets against maniacs who have no regret in losing their buy-ins. I consider myself a tight-agressive player who is able to command himself at low buy in tournaments. Is it time to increase the buy ins (Which I am hesitant to do) or do I just need to relax and gamble against these maniacs. Help greatly appreciated. Jonathon |

The problem is that the $1 buy-ins is just a small step up from a freeroll and attracts much the same style of player. If you're going to stay at this price, you'll just have to get used to the maniacs. I've seen folks play crazy at $10 and even $20 buy-ins but they're the exception rather than the rule...

Hi,
My advice would be to try the next stage up in S&G's...for example maybe $5+$1 buy in...you'll still get a few idiots but then again you'll always have to deal with them...what may seem like a terrible beat by these idiots will in time equal out...maniacs do not win in the long run...remember that when your playing,it may be hard to except a bad beat but just think in long term..remember rome wasn;t built overnight |

The $1 SNGs are crapshoots, almost the same as freerolls after the first break...
Move up to the $5 level, the competetion won't be that much tougher, but there won't be quite as many maniac plays. |

Thanks for the advice. It gave me the confidence to go up in buy-ins and today I have played in 4 3+.45 short handed tournys and have won 3 and got 2nd the other.
I am very glad I joined this forum and very thankful for your advice. Jonathon |

I would only move up if you feel you are confident in your ability, not just because "the other players are awful". Poker is a game based on taking advantage of your opponent's mistakes, after all.
It seems you were pretty confident and at least initially it's worked out for you though, so that's good. There's not a world of difference in the quality of play from $3 to $10 SnG's - at least on Stars, so if your bankroll can support it and if you feel adventurous you might want to try a few $~10 games. If you feel uncomfortable, just step back immediately of course, if you end up killing them, carry on. ![]() |

i tihnk that you just have to continue to play tight poker at the $1 limit, and if you do you will win in the long run, if you are so worried however, then just move up to the $5 oines, where you can play tight and tyou will actually be rewarded as apose to seeing a player allin iwith 2-3 off suit hitting quads!!!

I have read all the replys on this page and agree with all of them . As crazy as that sounds . I think the first thing is your comfort zone , if you move up from 1 to 5's are you comfortable playing with $5 of your money. I tell pepole all the time that I don't consiter poker gambeling ,I say this because a good poker player will win in the long run, where a even a brilliant craps shooter will not. But in reality every time you sit down at the poker table you are taking a gamble. Even the best poker players don't win them all. You have heard the saying scared cards can't win , well this is all to true! Online you will find bad players at alll levels , I agree you will find more at the low limits but online they can be found any where , and there dumb luck can beat you in any sescion .
Let your bankroll decide at what level you play , build your bankroll and move up as it grows , and as D M sayed if it dosen't feel right move back . The low limit game is tough to beat sometimes , but it teaches you disipline. But move up as soon as you can so you don't develope the bad habits that come along with this level. What I mean is as you move up you will have to adapt along the way , the same as you have to adapt from one table to the next. Any way I think the most important thing is to play within your bankroll limits, grind it out at that level untill you make enough to move up and ALWASE leave youself outs. |
