overcoming the big loss Hello, I have recently been trying to help build my roll w/ cash games. Here is a common thing that will happen. I will slowly but surely build my account up by buying in to a game for just over the minimum and getting out after I win a few hands and I'm up a little bit. then I buy in to the same game for the same amount. This little process works really good until. Please listen b/c this happens daily.. After about an hour of solid play and patience, I'm up let's say 50-100 bucks, feeling pretty good, I get dealt a premium hand like KK and get all my money in (which is just a little over the minimum required to sit at the table). and lose to a runner runner flush or something to that effect. Now in 1 hand, I've lost all the money that I won for the previous hour. This can be pretty discouraging. How do I overcome that. What should I do? Now I have to spend another entire hour to get this $ back. So now 3 hours into the day and I am back at square 1. Cash players please help Thanks

Hey Hillbilly, you don't need to be giving anybody advice as your obviously not mature enough to do so. I'm short stacking for reasons of my own and owe nothing to the poker community. I can feel free to short stack all day long if I choose. I'm well aware that I should sit down with more most of the time. There are reasons for what I am doing. You are supposed to be offering replies to help people , not to solidify yourself as a retarted hillbilly.

Don't look or think about profits. Think about good plays - if you keep making them, you will come out on top eventually. The result of an all in is effectively irrelevant. All that matters is you did everything you could to get your money in good, and focus on managing that every time. Also, having a solid bankroll behind you will help you to stop worrying about the beats as losing $100 of $1000 looks a lot more than $100 of say, $5000

Those are the only reasons a player buys in short for cash games. |

re: overcoming the big loss poker Yeah, I would seriously get away from short-stacking if at all possible. I don't pretend to know your situation and why you're buying in short, but if possible, try dropping down and buying in full. I tried short-stacking briefly, just to see what all the fuss was about short-stackers. As you may have noticed, they aren't especially popular on here. While that didn't necessarily bother me, it did bother me that my win rate went way down. While I believe it is possible to be successful as a short-stacker, the problem you described will keep happening. You just can't win enough on your premium hands to make-up for the times you'll get sucked-out on or end up 2nd best if you always buy-in as a short-stack.

I have noticed at the low stakes the players who buy-in short are often the weaker players or the players that'll just push if you make a raise. I don't mind them as much if they are to the right of me. Ones to the left can be aggravating. Alot of times if I see one i'll just call their all-in and hope to win if I think my hand is better. If not I'll just tighten up and wait to take their chips. But overall they aren't playing poker at all. BINGO is down the hall.

But when ug et to higher stakes there disgusting parasites that ruin the game by exploiting a mathematical advantage over full stacks. There parasites because there style only works if there playing on a table full of full stacks, which is why u never see a bunch of "good"(cause u cant relaly be a good scumbag) SS playing together on a table with no fullstacks. |

re: overcoming the big loss poker not see all those problems about shortstackers i myself never play full stacked because i like that more as fullstacked. not playing hit and run as a lot shortstackers do ! let all those fullstackers think that i am a fish i get more action that way because they all think lets steal that fish his blinds but mostly this not fullstacking fish turns out to be the shark that eats all those that think to impress me with their bigger stacks love to hit the fullstackers with their auto rebuy/refill for 2 or 3 of their full buyins this not full stacked playing has nothing to do with my very healty bankroll that would let me play easy fullstacked 2 or 3 levels higher as i play normally. i play mostly 10 or 25 nl but could afford 100nl easy according to so called proper bankroll manegment but i like the levels i play at more and have a lot more fun there and still make good profit every week fullstackers will say that i missed profit playing this way but i also miss a lot stress that they got

Hi JJ, Some people here haven't been very polite to you, but amongst it they have given you the answer to your question. You are getting called because it doesn't cost much to call you and take the chance of catching something. It also sounds like your holding might be fairly predictable from your play. Mix your game up a bit and don't leave yourself disadvantaged, or if you are determined to carry on your way then don't be so attached to your premium STARTING hands on later streets.

I am annoyed when playing full stacked against another full stack whom I have a read on. The short stacker pushes and my full stack opponent then folds and I end up having to make a decision for bus change. The short stack usually is push, push, busto. No sympathy here.
