Out Odds vs. Pot Odds

Im figuring out my out odds vs. pot odds more often during a game and finding it very helpful. Its a bit overwhelming at first doing all that math in your head with only a few seconds to act, but there are some shortcuts you can take that make it easier. I will use this in my home games for sure

The more information you have in making your decisions, the better the decisions, in the long run.

What are these shortcuts you are talking about? I am seriously terrible with math in general and any help would be good.

Drawing to X outs: (46-X) / X : 1.

This is the generic formula. If you're another draw than the ones I've listed above, and want to figure out your odds for it, you do this: Figure out your number of outs (you're on your own there), then take 46 minus this number. Divide the result by the number of outs, and voila - you have your odds. For example, if I'm drawing both to a set and to a flush, e.g. I have reason to believe my opponent has two pair, and I have AA, with four to a flush, my outs are any ace (giving me a set) plus 9 flush cards (giving me a flush), totalling 11 outs. This gives:
46 - 11 = 35.
35 / 11 = 3.2
My odds of drawing a winner are 3.2 : 1

This is from the strategy section at CardsChat.
One question from me, why is it 46, and not 47? Maybe Im being dumb?

Or you can just do 2 x outs + 2 = % of hitting on river after turn (2 x outs + 1 if you have <5 outs) and 4 x outs = % of hitting on turn or river (this gets pretty inaccurate once you have lots of outs however). It isn't practical to do accurate calculations in your head during a hand.

@ Kerouacs

That formula must be the odds of hitting on the river after the turn so there are 52 - 4 (board) - 2 (your hand) = 46 cards left in the deck.

@OP

Out odds and pot odds are related. ie. if you are deepstacked and think you have 12 outs on the river then it is a call if you are getting > 4:1 on your money. You can't even calculate your pot odds without calculating your out odds. Doesn't matter if you are getting 10:1 on your money if you are drawing to two outs.

When facing the turn & river to come simply multiply your outs by 4 and when just the river is to come multiply by 2.

Although not exact these will give you a quick and rough idea on what your percentage is.
