Opinions Wanted: Playing JJ or QQ OOP

I just read this article on playing pocket Queens or Jacks out of position and I don't think I quite agree with it entirely, but I guess "it depends". Please read for yourself and share your opinions here:

I agree that it should depend. But the thing is, surely, the majority of the time, even out of position, your going to be wanting to raise, in an attempt to get rid of any weak Aces/Kings?

That's pretty much how I'd play it. You don't want to reraise preflop, because if you're against QQ, KK, or AA, then you're done (all of these hands are logical to 3 bet preflop with). Also, you don't want to play too aggressively for fear that he may have hit the ace. I like the way Tran played that hand.

It's not the hand I have issue with. It's the whole concept of the article. It seems to use that hand to endorse passivity with JJ & QQ OOP. But I think the article is quite incomplete in explaining how and why this is so tough. Tran's approach to that particular situation and opponent may have been correct based on his read, but the article seems to leave it at that. I think there is more to it and I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same way towards this concept.

The article's junk; it's not worth discussing. The small detail of stack sizes seems to be omitted (among others), and that factor alone could define how passively or aggressively you play QQ/JJ.

Looks to me like some shitty reporter just got a 5 minute interview with Tran about a hand, omitted some key factors in the hand, slapped down Tran's comments about it on paper then published an article about them with no input of his own.

Yeah the article's from a newspaper, not a poker strategy and it's pretty bad imo. On the general topic though it depends on the opponent. If he's stealing with a super-wide range I like 3-betting just to take it down and not give them a free flop to hit overs and make our life difficult. If they don't steal a ton though but we still think we're ahead of their range (which is like always) then I like flatting preflop. Against a few good players who don't steal a lot I'll just fold because I don't like playing them oop against a tight range against someone good.
