online table position

I been reading "Super Systems" and he talks a lot about position. He even states that if he was on the button all night he could wipe the table out and not ever look at his cards. He is obviously talking about live games because the book was written before the onset of online poker. I realize that acting last has benefit but is it near as important in online poker as live games. I am starting to think that when I play by the cards in my hand I do better than playing a person because there are not the tells online that you would get in a live game. I understand that if I'm up against a tight player and I am last to act that there is a definite advantage but it seems like the average player out there doesn't react in a way that makes bluffing from late position profitable. Raises, reraises, and large bets from late position have been getting called on me lately by dogs that seem to catch cards or just have me beat outright but they should have never called. I don't know, maybe NL ring games are just not my thing. I seem to do OK in limit rings and NL tournies but get my ass handed to me in the NL rings.

Well to quote Doyle Brunson " against the type of player you meet online, you should try alot less tricks than you would in the real world".

Mr. Brunson describes a game of poker most have never seen. He is talking about deep stack no limit poker. His stragtegy does not apply to the no limit games we all play. Of course some of it still does, but not that particular statement.
Acting last gives you an infomational advantage. How much, well that's for you to decide. Let's say always acting last is a 3% advantage. Acting last takes all marginal situations and gives you the edge, as most of the time you can only exploit a 3-5% advantage. This small edge over time will add to your winnings in a huge way.
However, in the game he describes, there is no limit on the buy-in. So, one can always re buy for more chips than your largest opponents stack. THis is absolutely key. If it is true no limit poker, meaning no limit on bets, raises adn BUY-INS, I can agree with Mr. Brunson's statement.
In Las Vegas, Binions spreads a REAL no limit game. It has 1-2 blinds, but folks will regularly buy in for 20,000 dollars. It plays a lot differently.

Yes the thing most people misunderstand about Doyle's NL strategy is he developed it to use against GOOD or TIGHT players. Everybody seems to forget that he specifically tells you to play straight up against bad players. The reason he says you should be so aggressive against good players is because that is the only way you are gong to pry their money away from them, bad players make enough mistakes that there is no reason to take the risks that may be required to beat the better players. Bill of course put it much more eloquently than I ever could
