| Omaha - tight weak play Looking for suggestions on how to get more aggressive in Omaha, esp PLO 6max. Really long post here, but I'm trying to give an idea of how I think so you can make best suggestions you can. Last month I played about 20k hands of Omaha at various limits. About 3/4 of the hands are PLO 6max at $2, $5, and $10, the rest are O8 limit and PL (both FR, not 6max) with a few hands at other limits. My VPIP/PFR/AF is around 19/3/2, running around 2.5BB/100 (for whatever reason, I'm in god mode on UB, running like ^&%$ on FT, and running ok on PS - my run rate is 6BB/100 if I ignore FT, which I've been doing for the last week ). I'm really annoyed about the redline (non-showdown winnings) on my graph. I spent a lot of time in NLHE working on getting my redline to stop sloping so much, and now I'm seeing the darn thing dropping like a rock again now that I'm learning a new game. I was just reviewing a bunch of regs graphs on the other forum, and I can see that it's not necessary to have a redline like mine, most of them have a flat to slightly upsloping redline (though they're playing 10PLO to 200PLO). I know my stats are tight/weak (my 3bet % is only 1). My position stats show that I'm opening up on the btn, but my utg-co stats don't progress nicely (i.e., my VPIP UTG isn't that much lower than CO). I'm not too unhappy w an overall VPIP of 19 (I'm a nit), but I'm clearly limping/flatting way too much. So here's the deal - I know I'm playing tight/weak, but I'm not sure how to go about working on it. In NLHE, I can go to pokerstove and plug in 35% to see what hands are in the top 35% and make sure I'm playing those on the btn, or plug in 20% to see what I should be playing in CO if I want a 20% VPIP in CO - I don't know of an equivalent for Omaha. I have Hwang's first PLO book, but he doesn't talk alot about how to increase aggression, it's actually fairly tight/weak in its approach and doesn't look at (for example) how to play the btn/position/villains as much as I'd like. In general, the hands I'm raising w are AAxxds, AAxx plus a pair, AAxx plus ss broadways, 4 card rundowns headed by a T or higher, and btn raises. If someone's limping a lot, I'm more likely to raise in lp, very unlikely to raise oop. The hands I'm 3betting w are the best AA hands, two high pair ss, and very strong ss rundowns (headed by a Q or higher). In lp, I'm flatting alot of pair hands w two cards that work w each other or the pair, 3card rundowns (8 or higher) w a ss or a pair, two pair hands, Axxx w A ss and a 3 card rundown, any four cards 9 and higher, and others that I'm not thinking of right now (my VPIP on btn is 29%). Re: villain types - everyone at $2 and $5 is so loose and calls so much (VPIP of 75+ is common, 50 is common at $10 - I am invariably the tightest player at any PLO 6max table I've sat at) that I'm having problems deciding what to raise with. Since hand values pf are closer together than in HE, and most limpers do not fold to single pot sized raises, I'm usually reluctant to build a big pot pf (esp oop), so I end up limping alot. Cbetting isn't as effective as in NLHE, getting called down w lots of goofy hands (bottom two pair, 9 hi flush, etc.), which is good and bad if you know what I mean. For postflop play, I'm generally dumping hands that don't connect well w the board from earlier positions immediately - incl overpairs, esp if the board is coordinated. In late position, I'll frequently call to see the turn w hands that haven't connected strongly w the flop, but may connect strongly w the turn (i.e., AsJcTs9c on a Kd8c4s flop), esp if betting in front of me looks weak. I bet any set on the flop (slowing down in a hurry if I'm called and it's not top set), any top two pair, and any draw to the nuts from any position. In last position, I'll bet dry boards if checked to w any 4 cards, and will bet top pair if checked to. If you read between the lines above, you'll also see that I'm having problems putting people on hands - I mean geez, what range do you put a 75VPIP on??? Any thoughts or suggestions on how I should be approaching/thinking about ratcheting up my aggression? Thanks to everyone/anyone who didn't fall asleep reading this... |
