Omaha Strategy

Okay, i've been playing Omaha recently and i'm hoping to get a few tips. Omaha is a game that i've always had this irrational fear of, as it seems like 2 pair is a sucker hand, whenever there's pair on the board, someone has a set; 3 cards of the same suit, someone has a flush, three cards to a straight, someone is at least on a draw, and no one ever wins with a high card, but the more i've played it, the more i've grown to like this, as it forces you to play, especially post flop, with made hands, and a lot of the people i've been playing against today don't seem to realize that. I would still call myself a hold'em player, but i'm starting to get interested in Omaha. So i'm looking for Omaha players, especially people who play it exclusivly. i should probably just find a book, but i'm poor, so i'm looking for some free advice. any responces would be appricated. thanks

Yes, a set is the minimum hand usually. 2 pair no good, top pair top kicker way no good. Sometimes 2 drawing hands miss and youll see a top pair win, but if you look closely there was usually a monster draw with that top pair.

AKAQ double suited is a great starting hand. in 8/better A2A3 double suited is a great starting hand.
If you can invision the nuts on the flop, and you can't redraw to beat it, get out. Someone already has the nuts. If there is 3 to a suit on the board your straight is no good. 2 pairs in the hole no good.

Jus a few quick tips off of the top of my head. Ill add somemore later.

Hey! Well, I sure do understand you. They always want so much money for the cool books that teach you play. I still did buy Sklansky when I just started and... didn't understand a thing at first... It did take me sme time to really get into it. Personally I prefer to find out poker info online: it's free and there's so much of it. You just type "omaha strategy" in the google machine and here you go )))

Anyways, I personally liked these two articles:
1) PokerTips.org - Poker Strategy - Low Limit Omaha Strategy
Enjoy!

Dorkus is your man for this, he's written a 3part guide to omaha which should be going up in the articles section within the next 3-5 days.

Fixed. [ btw] It's based on 8/b, though some of it could be seen as relevant to Omaha high only I guess, though I've not played much hi only, just a personal preference I have for H/L.

re: Omaha Strategy poker

I've had sessions where I've had a run of playable hands, which have only turned into 2 pair... and finding each time that they've drowned at the river... the problem you end up finding with 2 pair is that you may well have the best hand on the flop, but you often aren't the favourite to win the hand.
I would say, though, that in the loose games around the pot odds can still support playing these vulnerable hands, at least so long as you dont get obvious signs of someone making a better hand, especially if you have the advantage of late position and can put your opponents on nothing more than drawing hands.

In omaha you almost always want to play your big draws. Only bet if you hold the nuts or are drawing to the new nuts.
