Omaha Starting Hands

Hi All,

Apologies if there is a similar thread somewhere. With PL Omaha, where the high takes 100% of the pot, is there a definitive guide on starting hands?

For my money personally I would go something like AsJsAh10h to give myself nut flush chances with two different suits, as well as straight draws and of course a massive overpair. I`d be interested to see what other people think is good - it seems there is a bit more latitude than holdem, where top starting hands are pretty obvious.

Nick.

Thanks for that, it gives a good rough idea, but is geared towards high / low, whereas I am interested in games where only the high hand pays.

You basically want two-suited hand including two aces and two faces. whether AAKK double suited is better than AAKQ double suited isn't that big a deal since the nature of Omaha, with more cards in play, makes many advantages slimmer than what holdem players are used to.

Being double suited is good. You are playing to make the nuts so you need as much help as you can get. 89TJ double suited is really good because you have two chances to make a flush, though you gotta be careful since it wont be the nut flush, plus you can make a straight with 20 different combinations. See more at the Omaha Poker probability page on Wikipedia. Confusing but insightful.

I would say try and play double suited pairs and double suited straight cards. Higher the cards the better of course.
