| Omaha H/L For the first time today I actually spent more than 5 minutes at a H/L table, I'm glad I did as it turned out to be quite profitable. I made $6 over 2 sessions on the $0.02/$0.04 tables and I had 1 session at a $0.10/$0.20 table where doubled my $4 buy in. I'm still new to this game and a few times today I was caught out when I thought I had the best low hand but didn't. I know that the nut low is 5, 4, 3, 2, A but how do work out if you have the best low when its not as clear cut as that. Here's a hand I played a short while ago where I won the Hi and lost the Low. PokerStars Game #5716989553: Omaha Hi/Lo Limit ($0.10/$0.20) - 2006/07/28 - 22:26:15 (ET) Table 'Baucis II' 10-max Seat #10 is the button Seat 1: citylady58 ($1.40 in chips) Seat 5: Ramble_On ($1.45 in chips) Seat 7: flynhi2 ($4.50 in chips) Seat 8: 138Misfit ($5.25 in chips) Seat 9: MyScreenName ($1.90 in chips) Seat 10: nobuns ($6.90 in chips) citylady58: posts small blind $0.05 Ramble_On: posts big blind $0.10 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to 138Misfit [5c 2s Td 9d] flynhi2: calls $0.10 138Misfit: calls $0.10 MyScreenName: folds nobuns: calls $0.10 citylady58: calls $0.05 Ramble_On: checks *** FLOP *** [Ad 7h Ac] citylady58: bets $0.10 Ramble_On: folds flynhi2: calls $0.10 138Misfit: calls $0.10 nobuns: folds *** TURN *** [Ad 7h Ac] 6♦ citylady58: bets $0.20 flynhi2: calls $0.20 138Misfit: calls $0.20 *** RIVER *** [Ad 7h Ac 6d] Q♦ citylady58: bets $0.20 flynhi2: calls $0.20 138Misfit: calls $0.20 *** SHOW DOWN *** citylady58: shows [7c 9c 2c Tc] (HI: two pair, Aces and Sevens) flynhi2: shows [4d 3s 3h Js] (HI: two pair, Aces and Threes; LO: 7,6,4,3,A) 138Misfit: shows [5c 2s Td 9d] (HI: a flush, Ace high; LO: 7,6,5,2,A) 138Misfit collected $1 from pot flynhi2 collected $0.95 from pot *** SUMMARY *** Total pot $2 | Rake $0.05 Board [Ad 7h Ac 6d Qd] Seat 1: citylady58 (small blind) showed [7c 9c 2c Tc] and lost with HI: two pair, Aces and Sevens Seat 5: Ramble_On (big blind) folded on the Flop Seat 7: flynhi2 showed [4d 3s 3h Js] and won ($0.95) with HI: two pair, Aces and Threes; LO: 7,6,4,3,A Seat 8: 138Misfit showed [5c 2s Td 9d] and won ($1) with HI: a flush, Ace high; LO: 7,6,5,2,A Seat 9: MyScreenName folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 10: nobuns (button) folded on the Flop I realise that I was pretty fortunate to make my flush on the river, looking back I can't help thinking I played this hand completely wrong. Anyway, I know it will be something dead simple and blatantly obvious but why did my 7,6,5,2,A lose to 7,6,4,3,A? I've got a real taste for this game now but untill i fully understand the ins and outs of which low hands are better than others, my potential profits are limited. |

| Thanks JAMILE1, I see where I see where I've been going wrong now, I've been judging the strength of my hand from the wrong end. I thought my hand was lower just because I had 2,A while the other guy had 3,A, I never considered any other part of the hand after that. I feel like a bit of an idiot now but i'm glad I asked about where I was going wrong, it could have been costly had I left it. Looking over my HH's for my H/L sessions, a lot of the big pots I won were when there was no Low and I had the nut High. I didn't win that many pots with the low. Now that I have a bit more of a clue about what I'm doing, todays sessions should be even more profitable. Thanks again. |
