Omaha 8/l Question

Why is it when someone is heads up against another player they always end up over-raising?

Its going to be split right down the middle you can see it coming a mile away. But they still overbet.

And by the time the hand is over both of us have lost some money because of the Rake.

Because one thinks the other can't possibly have a hand as good as his. Some percentage of the time this is true due to Donk play.

Remember that there is always a hi omaha hand, but not always a low. Thus the high hand should almost always raise making the apparent low hand prove the case.

Yeah but if you see a board where its pretty obvious one is going high and one is going low why raise a $2 pot another $5?

Because the times they don't have the low make it worth more than the rake you lose.

The could also be doing it thinking their low hand is good and they're a chance to scoop, or at least quarter you on the low pot.

Keep in mind too that if you're going to the low hand, it's obvious to you what you're trying to do - but the other player might not pick up on it.

This is always the danger of playing for just the low hand - I realise that heads up sometimes you've got no choice but to play for it after the flop lest you end up crippled, but you've got to remember that there's a real chance you'll either get quartered or get nothing. And that's before you worry about rake.

This is the really treacherous aspect of Omaha8; maybe the most frustrating card game ever devised.
