A new strategy for me
I have been playing online poker for a few years now and came across something new the other day. I have never seen anyone fold so many times on the river card, when it was checked to them. This was in a freeroll to boot. Had to sit and think about the reasons why. First we thought it was a bot playing. Then I asked in a chat room about this person and if there was a reason why. I was told this person calls with any suited cards and cards most people would not think of calling with. He would fold on a checked river so you would not see what he was calling you with. Think I might try that in the near future to see where it will take my game to. GL

i dont quite get what you're getting to here.... when someone checks down to you on the river... your options are to check or bet... you can't fold... you can only fold if there's a bet... i don't really see how this is a strategy though.... or maybe on Ultimatebet you can fold to checks but i dunno i play on Full Tilt... either way i think thats not really a strategy....

might be an interesting tactic to try in a freeroll. no harm done there, and if you do it for a game or 2 and it doesnt work, you can always go back to normal. heck you might even run into this guy and turn the tables on him. that would be funny i think. i see you around all the time, iim sure you can have success with it and some fun

Yes you can fold on most sites if it's checked to you, but I just don't get it, if it's checked to you, would'nt you feel more inclined to take a stab at the pot? Calling, Calling, and then folding just does'nt seem like a good move at all. Weather it's a free roll or not

I knew a guy who would play ATC just trying to bust someone out and then watch them go off in chat. He called it "donking" ( he's a friend of mine). Anyway, he didn't want to show his hand if he didn't hit big and show that he played 2 rags and cracked your big pr. or something like that.

i have seen a lot of this lately. bet bet bet or check check check or call call call and fold on the river. or be timed out. but here is the catch. they chase with crap betting the whole way(with small bets or checking) to narrow the field then they will fold on the river. it is a set up play for later on so they can get called when they have the nutz. and i have noticed that it is effective. they will throw away 1/3rd of theyer chips and then bust a pot for the double or even triple up. its a sweet play but it makes me wonder about the player. where did this play come from and who came up with it. it is a strange deal. and by the way i like to be real hard on the guys that do this. they want to win with a crap hand they must pay pay pay and finally pay. they will suckout if given to many chances. folding on the river to a check sheesh!!! you could be bluffing.

re: A new strategy for me poker
The strategy is 99% pointless. First, you're missing out on the occasional pot when your Q-high is the best hand. Second, you're playing every pot. Anyone paying attention is going to know you're playing garbage, whether you show it at the end or or not. Third, it's extremely exploitable.

Well ... First we all ought to get down to the general conception of the term called "Strategy". The best strategy or even a good strategy which is worth using is one which would guarantee you some money. Playing in this way would never; trust me. And if you really want to win , you have to show your cards at some point of time! unless you want to ummm ... you know .. use your 'strategy' and avoid winning the bets while choosing to 'hide' your cards away *snicker *snicker . lol!!
Well its worth a post though , atleast we're aware of it. :| |

I have also only been playing a few years, but I know exactly what you're talking about....There was a guy in a Ultimatebet freeroll doing the same thing the other day. I tried it a couple times, and it works on some people because it throws them off as to why you're doing it. Watch out though. I came across a guy who caught on quick, and would raise right off the bat just so that I'd fold, or try to get me to play along.

I could understand if you did this once after a bad draw you had no business going after but after you do this twice, anyone paying attention will know your playing trash. This "strategy" is pointless because once they know your playing trash you might as well showdown and give yourself a chance to win. You are going to get all the action anyways.
