| Need a pointer or two plz I think my biggest problem is the first 20min. i sit at a table. I always seem to lose a couble BI's and then the rest of my session it seems i am just working back to what i started at. I dont know if its that i just play to loose or whatever but this just aways seems to happen. So i am wondering what people do to get in the mood to play and the right mind set. Is there anything because do to kind of warm up their game or what not. |

| You just need to play tighter. Fold the first few rounds unless you have something good like high pair AA, KK,QQ,AK, AQ, a poker match is long term, so don't play loose, Wait for good hands and by then a couple people should be knocked out and a couple will have less chips than you. and then play a good hand....bet pretty big preflop...and if the flop is good for you..make another bet... later on in the match..if the blindes are cheap...and you have lower carsd or a flush/straight chance you can take a little gamble and see what the flop shows up. you need to play more agressive ive learnt..dont be scared to bet when you feel your the winner. |

As a general comment, if you tend to spew money early in your sessions, it's probably a wise idea to start by playing a little tighter than usual and strictly play ABC poker. Use your time to observe the other players and take notes. Only when you have a good idea of the other players style can you start to play more speculative hands and attempt moves. |

It seems more like a problem of "getting into the zone" type of issue to me. Instead of implementing poker strategy, my suggestion is to play at some lower stakes tables at first until you are finding some success at the table to work out all the kinks. Then you can open up another table with a bit higher stakes (ones you normally play) and start watching the other players and see if you can pick up information just by observing. Slowly make your transition over to the newer table and see if this is any help to you. |

| re: Need a pointer or two plz poker I have the excact opposite problem. I never no when to quit. I usually do very well the first hour, but then i usually donk my winnings away in a short while hereafter. usually it only takes me about 5 minutes to loose an hours winnings. Anyways play tight when You enter a new table. You havent got any reads on your opponents, and therefore not enough information to make your descisions. Either spend 20-30 minutes observing the table before you sit down, or play very tight the first 20-30 minutes. |

I'd also suggest sticking to only a couple of tables (2 or 3) and each hand you see, take notes on them (put your opponents on ranges, try to read their hands from the bit of info. you're accumulating, get a read on their playing style, etc., etc., etc. One of my leaks when first starting out was to keep the tv on in the background. Then often I'd find myself reviewing a hand history after some action went down on the table, and further missing more info. I could be using. If anything while I'm on tables the last thing I get is bored (unless it's a real nitty table), and I also find that if anything I am 'too busy'. I feel this is what helps to give me the edge I strive for when sitting down at the tables,... 'I want to know my opponents'. During this time I'm looking for ways in which to exploit my opponents and which of those opponents I'm most likely going to be winning the most from (sometimes within 5 or less I can tell you who I'm going to be profitting from... at least in the short run). My experience though is also different,... I'm almost always winning the first bunch of hands I'm playing. When I start to get bored I leave the table. Maybe HeadsUp would be more suiting for you? I don't know?? What I do know though is that I'm not going to do well in any game I'm bored with, whether it be the limits aren't high enough or my head just isn't into it. I have a pre-game ritual too... I make sure any & all outside business is taken care of and out of the way. Then, I eat, get the coffee flowing, turn the phone off, turn the answering machine down, and put a note on my door saying "I'm sleeping. Do not disturb unless emergency! - - a clogged drain is 'NOT' an emergency... a FIRE is!" (only my friends knock.. but not the ones who want to stay friends for long, lol). Oh yah.. I work as a property manager if that helps to make sense of above, lol. GL on the tables!! |
