my poker question

OK, do any of you ever reach that point were poker just becomes like a job. Heres the deal ive been playing poker for 5 years now and ive gotten to the point were the game gets boring very quickly and just seems like work to me. i mean i make money and i know very well i can turn a profit when im focused and i just want to... But again its like work and gets kinda old quick in the game. To me its very sad i know i can make good money when im focused and on my game and it had to get old to me. So my question is does any of you have a clue on how to deal with this issue. I have taken a few weeks off here and there but what else can i do? Any comments would be appreciated. thx

I'm not sure, I expect that the constant challenge of it will keep me interested forever.

Maybe you've conquered whatever game you're playing in and it's become just a matter of sticking to an over-rehearsed routine to beat it?
Try playing a bigger game or playing more tournaments/cash games (whichever you find more difficult).

Personally I find it hard to lose interest because even though I believe I've outgrown my current game (unfortunately my bankroll hasn't) in the next level up there are half a dozen players who've outplayed me many times before, and there's always talk of the high stakes games with insane quantities of money and presumably a lot of skilled players.
I think to tire of poker you've got to stop finding the challenge rewarding and/or you've got to stop caring about money.

Then again, I haven't been playing (well, playing seriously anyway) for as long as you, so I could be way off here.

Quit? If its not boring, and the money isn't important, do something else that's fun. Life's too short to be bored.

I don't think it was quite like that for me, but a little over a year ago I found myself not enjoying playing any more. So I just stopped. I went completely cold turkey and didn't play for a whole year. I started again about a month ago and I'm loving it! I'm just playing freerolls right now, but I'm looking to step my game up soon.

I think with poker you have to be constantly striving to improve your game. As you "master" a level, move up to the next. If your bankroll is not improving, that means you haven't really mastered your current level yet. If you're too disinterested or too distracted to master your level and you're not having fun, then it's time to stop for a while, IMO.

Some people play poker because they are good at it and can earn a living that way, regardless of whether they truly enjoy it or not. But most of us either play for fun or because we're striving to get better. As mentioned, there are mega bucks out there if you can get good enough. I think we all dream of that.

So figure out why you play, what your goals are, and what you are willing to invest in those goals. Just like with every "job", it's worthwhile to take a step back and analyze just what it is that you're doing with all of that time and effort.
