my new strategy

Does anyone agree that folding almost ever hand until the blinds go up a few level is the best way to get a read on your oppents and establish a tight look for other players to fear? i understand that you have to play along with the blinds.. but it seems i do better when i wait and play tight... any comments or suggestions?

What is the game situation? If it's a micro buy-in tournament with a huge enrollment, you're going to get moved from table to table in the first hour, and it's probably not worth much to invest in a table image. And many of the players in these big cheap tournies won't be paying attention to what you're doing.

In general, I agree with what you are saying, but you should always make room for exceptions. I would play suited connectors for cheap when in position with a lot of limpers in front of you. I would also play high PP hyper aggressively instead of making standard raises, make them pay against odds to play against you, or be content with taking a small pot without contest. The mid to late stages are where you make your money in these tournaments, not the early. I also wouldn't invest a lot in table image until the mid to late stages, where it actually matters. That is where your image plays a role, not early when tables change and there are too many donks still involved.

In cash and tourney its best to have a good TAG image... Because you can abuse different situations that are laid in front of you...

I can agree with the strategy with one change. Getting a playable hand in position, then play it with a touch of caution. If you hit then pick up some free chips, if not, move on!

I like your strategy and the comments about it. Table image doesnt really matter unless the others are only playing 1 or two games. And in the micro stakes I find the other players arent even thinking about anything but the two cards in front of them.

The late stages of a game is where you looking to make chips because they come in big chunks. And table image is important because the players actually have some observation skill. And remeber Dan Harrington and his principle of balance. You want to manipulate the way the table is perceiving you for a purpose (so you get payed big on your legit hands or bluff without resistance)

It may work sometimes..but every game is different. I like to play a few while the blinds are small to see how my luck is going if no win in first few hands , then I go with folding often. If it works for you go for it...smiles..good luck at the tables

well I agree and disagree. Agree cause I do it too, and that method has proven to be very useful for me. On the other hand, it's a known strategy for beginners and hence it's weakness. I don't think it works against the pros or even some players you've played before...

OP.. generally... 'yes'... BUT, appearing 'as if' you have a really loose donkey image in early going will help u to get paid off huge on your monsters. On some tables this might be the optimal approach (it depends, lol).

In like anything in poker it depends. Are you talking about MTT's or SNG'? How big are the tournaments? In the big tournaments you don't have to worry about table image really, you change tables so often it doesn't matter. Plus, the majority of the idiots playing online don't give a crap or pay attention to things like that. How often have you played tight, got a hand like AA in EP. Raised, and the lose idiot at the table 3 bet you. You shove, he snap calls with A rag or something like KQ suited and sucks out on you. You would think if he's paying attention he would realize, hey this guy doesn't play many hands and he four bet shoved me, he probably has a hand. They don't think about things, they just do things.

You need to play poker. Playing tight is good, but too tight isn't going to win you the tournament. You need to pay attention to what is going on at your table, find out who you can out play and who is going to call you down no matter what. Avoid playing large pots when out of position if possible. Avoid going all in and risking all your chips if possible. You want to be able to control the pot, which is hard to do when out of position. So use your reads and pick your spots and focus on the game you are playing.

"BIG" tournaments.... I'm assuming you're referring to large-sized playing field (as in ... many entrants).. and not 'bigger' buyin tournaments.
What you're saying here is relevant to the super micros but there are many tournaments online that are a higher buyin than $1 - $5.

If you actually read my post, there is no assuming, that's what I was talking about. Also due to the OP's question, I would be willing to bet the majority of his play is $1 - $5 tournaments.
