my mistake

yesterday i was in a freeroll and the first player went all in about $30,000 with A 3 and then there was a couple of folds and i had A Q so i went all in with $64,000 to get the 2 guys behind me to fold but the guy behind me had K K and called and flopped a King and took us both out>> did i make the rite move or was that a big mistake> i figured i had the first guy beat and i was rite, but i never expected the guy behind me to have pocket kings

Its hard to say really, depends what the play styles of the various people were.

Calling like that (well raising) with only AQ you had to think at best it was a 50 50 shot, just happened that you had him dominated. So that turned out to be a good play.

Depending on what the stack sizes were on the guys behind you, you have to consider that was 30k large enough to make them fold anyway and did you need to reraise. If they were going to call the 30k, surely the hand was good enough to call your raise.

Basically your raise wouldn't have probably made much difference as to if someone was going to play or fold, if 30k was a large proportion of peoples stacks. Specially if 2 people already had shown strength, they would need a very good hand to play (which turns out he did)

Just calling here would have let you seen the flop and a King coming up against 2 opponents, any show of strength here you would have been good to get away from. Leaving you still with 34k. Of course the guy behind you may well have set you all in after you had just called. Now there is a tough spot, you would surely have to think that he had a good hand, which while a tough fold after calling half your stack, he would have to figure you would play it, so its less likely to be a bluff. Though of course that move could well be.

So generally good read on the first guy but you just happened to have someone with a better hand out of the 2 left behind you. Tough break but thats poker ;]

I think you made the right move. You cant fold there, and if you just call and then get raised, you would have to go all in. In my opinion you cant make a really good analisis in freerolls because there's so many guys that play because is free and they dont care about the tournament.

It's hard to call an all-in regardless of what your opponent has with AQ in middle position with bigger stacks behind you. If you were in the cut-off or button position and no one else had called, it would have been the right move. However, usually calling an early position all in with AQ in middle poisiton can get you into a lot of trouble, regardless if your opponent this time had A3.

Well really you did make a good play. If you were short stacked you would have to. If you had a lot more chips, you may have thought about just calling or even folding. All depends how many chips you had at the time.
