Moving to mid-stakes SnGs / Tourneys I started out doing play money, got some free money on my account (80 cents) and have since turned it into about 2k. 95% of this earned money has come from low stakes games $3-$10. Getting there wasn't easy, I went near broke multiple times until I finally got on a hot streak and really started to understand the game tho lately I've plateau'd big time around 2k. The issue is : I can clearly work the small stakes very well to pull a pretty nice profit. When I move up to med stakes though, which I have done on more than several occasions, people are often much higher rated players and low rated players all of a sudden become a rarity.. and even the "lower" rated players tend to be a lot less dumber than lower rated players on low stakes. Because of this I find that the bottom line profit margin off of medium stakes games actually are *worse* than lower stakes games for me because my "skill" level becomes a lot more mediated by the large number of other knowledgeable players. Note: I still have made money off these games, it just ends up netting worse than lower stakes. My question becomes for those that have had experience with this transition - what allows one to move up successfully and maintain a nice profit? What are the primary methods of making money that lower stakes players aren't used to that mid stakes players take advantage of etc.

I am a stud 8 h/l player for the most part, one thing that has helped me is bottom line getting the books. Use your FPP's. Even if you only pull one or two concepts out to apply to your game so be it. I personally gained help by a book written by Ray Zee.

Ive recently been onlt playin small stakes tournaments and sng's.... However, I did make a transition as well when I was on a hot streak. I usually play 11.00- 27.50 when I have a nice roll. A thing that really helped me was asking questions like yourself and gaining experience in these games As you said before you were good at the lower stakes because of the less knowledgable players. I dont think that, that was the reason you were having succsess, obv some players are donks/fish and you can get a nice stack by these players but you still have to play well or that doesnt matter. You need to catch cards and play them right, that goes without saying. I think what will help you the most is watch your opponents. In lower stake games you have people going out all the time because of the horrible play. In med. stakes people tend to be more patient and wait for there spots to play, and then you have the more aggresive players who take control of the table, and those are the players you have to trap, In lower stakes there startegy is more, go get all the donks and hope not to get sucked out. Also, I think that you need to know that it pays off to be conservative in the earlier stages in the tournament. Hopefully, I helped you gl at the tables, and have fun! Remember more strategy is involved in medium stakes then in lower stakes!
