Moving to larger tables.

Don't know if this has been covered before but I'll ask the question anyway. I play 5 player, no limit, ring games alot(that's about 99% of the time). I find the loose nature of the games suits my temperament and my record is fairly good. I win them about 50% of the time and come in second(still in the money) about 20%. Now my problem is when I try to move up to 10 player games and multi-tourneys I seem to play way too tight. My play in the smaller games is very aggressive and this approach does very well for me. Now I know I can't open up like that in the larger games or I will be destroyed but there has to be a happy medium. Any suggestions?

Anyway, play SnGs. They're great for shaping an all-round game just because of their nature. Though the last part of your post makes it look like you're playing them anyway. >_>

I assume we are talking about SNG's. Well you hinted that you are on the right track anyway. Yes as a general rule shorthanded games favor a more loose aggresive style than full table games. That is why most beginning players or action seeking players like shorthanded games. Now you say you play way too tight when you play a full table so you believe that you are OVERadjusting. There is no way without you supplying some stats to properly analyze your play. So the best I can do is offer a tip or 2. When playing a normally structured full table NL SNG start out tight and as the blind levels increase loosen up, in all cases you should be aggressive but the aggression must be effective aggression manical aggression will do little more than give your opponent an easy way to beat you! Also SNG's are all about WINS I personally believe many strategies are effective as long as the goal is to WIN not simply "get into the money". Best tip is when close to the money turn up the heat most player's pucker factor increases ten fold during this time and is a great way to set yourself for a win.

UPDATE: If your win rate is what you state it to be disregard everything and do not play anything but 5 player tables!

just try to stick to what you are comfortable with. When you play different games you tend to play worse, and it can end up hurting u in the long run.
