It sounds as though you are looking for an odds calculator, rather than a tracker. There are not very many options for an Omaha player. The only ones I can call to mind are Omaha Poker Coach and Omaha Indicator. Of these, Omaha Indicator appears more sophisticated and has better reviews, but I am afraid I have no personal experience of it. I wouldn`t be very sure that a calculator is of great benefit in Omaha, in any case. The nature of the game is much more volatile than (for example) NLHE. Each street typically throws up a new set of possibilities and, prior to the river, it is often the case that there could be several hands in play none of which is mathematically a great favourite over the others.

The best poker tool that you could use is your brain. I am against software, if you go to school and learn 2 + 2 X 5. You should be able to learn the odds of almost any poker hand. Of course you will need some time to learn, and I'm not talking about knowing the exact percentages of every hand. I'm only talking about the simple basics of answering the question " Is it worth it for me to call this bet " ? You can be just as smart as any odds calculating device. Let's put it this way. If I designed an odds calculator does that mean I know the information that is programmed into this device ? Yes probabally, because I programmed it right ? So who makes these odds calculators anyway ? Is it just normal everyday people who do a little research on the topic ?

Be careful with poker software. Every site has a list of acceptable and non-acceptable programs to be used. The only software I use is holdem manager and I don't even open the HUD. I use it to track my own performance and then check if I am in the right ballpark percentage wise with regard to VPIP%, PFR, 3bets, C-bets, etc etc. If you check out the list of acceptable programs for whatever site you use, find the ones that you think look the best or the ones you're looking for, for example one that says something like pot odds in it, and then google it for reviews.

Tournament Indicator (which was mentioned above) shows Pot Odds, Outs, and (for each opponent) VPIP, PFR%, Aggression Factor, Went to Showdown %, Won Showdown%, and overall chips won/lost. Holdem Manager shows no Pot Odds or Outs, but has a highly configurable heads-up display which can show any of the other things mentioned and/or a range of additional info, including Cbet%, Steal%, Fold to Steal, Fold to Cbet, Frequency of Betting by Table Position etc.. Holdem Manager also has extensive facilities for reviewing hands after the session is over, which Tournament Indicator does not. I don`t know of any software which will identify Bluffing Frequency. I am not even sure how exactly you would measure that, actually. It is, however, easy enough to get an impression, from either of these programs, as to how often an opponent is betting and raising. From that, one can make an informed judgement as to whether he is likely to be playing solid cards only or taking liberties also. Last edited by Egon Towst : 17th February 2009 at 9:17 PM.

Agreed. However, the two programs mentioned above are considered to confer no unfair advantage and are acceptable virtually everywhere. They do no more than collate and present in a convenient form information which is equally available to any player who uses a notepad and a pocket calculator. |
