Im not sure if this was a cooler or misplayed, wanted some info on what you guys think is this session of 6 max .05 NL on pokerstars. The villain was 23/15/18 (limping being the 18) over 20 hands

You kiddng me? Yes it's a cooler although your raise might have been too big on the flop. You're always getting it on the flop and fist pumping.

Yeah, cooler. He can have lots of draws and you'll be fine never folding a flopped set 100bbs deep. Don't even consider it.

Dont limp preflop

Dilemma no doubt.

At the micro stakes level, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Preflop is where this hand is lost.

Either you raise large enough to convince your villain here you have a large PP, or AK and discourage him from calling (he's doesn't generally stomach a race), or you pretty much have to limp. Villain limped his pair btw, and faced the same dilemma.

I've generally taken to folding small pp's anymore. I figure I've only really got 2 out to improve to what will generally be the best hand. With suited connectors I've got somewhere in the range of 12 outs, but half of those are conditional (suited flop in my suit, or runners to my straight), but with 6 outs to pair, or 2p, I figure that is the better option to limp.

Much as we all dislike the notion limping is here to stay, and there are places where it is the better thing to do.

But like everyone else says, it was a cooler, and no one can fault you for getting it all in with what will most of the time be the winning hand. Cept there was that pesky str8 posibility.... but we won't complicate things any more.

He didn't. He was BB. Checking a small pair in the BB in a multiway pot is fine imo.

If the goal of poker were to win pots then people who limp small PP OOP would be doing really well, every time they win a pot they earn a point and at the end of the year they get some kind of trophy.

However the aim pof poker is to win money. When you limp small PP you give yourself virtually no way to take the pot down with the worst hand postflop. When you hit you rarely get to lay for stacks and a good percentage f the times you do you are up against another concealed monster.. maybe a higher set maybe just some random 2 pair hand but you will never find yourself against a normal TPTK hand.

So most of the time you lose that small limp bet (and they add up) then most of the time you hit you win a tiny pot. Occasionally you play for stacks but a noticeable chunk of those times you face a bigger hand or a huge draw.

The result is that limping small PP OOP is just a losing play, the times that you hit a set and win a stack dont make up for all the times you dont hit and have to fold postflop and the times you do hit but get beaten at SD.

I thought he was on the BTN.

Id love to raise to allow myself to play postflop, but I know they will all call .. making posflop difficult.

Ha thanks for setting them straight hillbilly XD i generally almost never limp anything when playing TAG. if im playing the hand im raising 98 percent of the time specifically so i do have that post flop play you speak of, and most of the time im limping im completeing the SB if you consider that a limp at all

Often times it's still better to raise or fold, unless a few people have limped before you. Being OOP makes it very difficult to get value from a hand especially in an un-raised pot.
