mid pos/ mid pr how should I think?

Against a player I think I know his play I have 8's in mid pos. I 3x (120)raise after 3 folds and get reraised twice my raise by the sm blind. Should I call, reraise or fold? The 2 times he was in sm blind I raised w/sm prs and he folded this was 3rd time so I thought he was fighting back. Flop was 2-4-6 he bet 1/2 pot I pushed allin he called w/Q's.
This was 32 hand and my 9th pr so I looked like a loose player I guess. Do good players fold to reraise preflop or just call flop bet. Please help my thinking.
Thanks

The minute he raised me, I would switch from assuming I had the best hand, to assuming I had the worst. I'd probably still call the raise (assuming the stacks warranted it), but unless I hit an 8 on the flop, I'd probably be done with the hand. There are just too many pocket pairs bigger than 8s to play them that aggressive, in my opinion.

I'll have to agree with pokervic.definitly just call his reraise. If he leads out(which he should)and I missed my set,I would have to lay it down.

Preflop you played it fine IMO. Folding is to a min raise pf is too tight, you might have the best hand if he has two high cards and if he has a big PP you'll stack him if you hit a set. Postflop shoving is way too aggressive, you should just call and see what he does on the turn. If he bets the turn he probably has a big pair and you should fold, if he checks he probably has AK or AQ.

What are the stack sizes? and any stats or reads on villain?

Both of these will largely effect the outcome

20/40 blinds I had 1860 and he had 2080. Preflop I raised to 120 he reraised to 360. 760 in pot he bet 400 on flop. After looking back at the game he had played less than 20% of hands and did not defend blinds. I felt I could not call, it was push or fold. A call would have left me with only 1100 chips and a pot of 1560. I don't like to have less than the pot with cards to still to come. All I could think about was I have an overpair and this is the 2nd best flop I could hope for.
Thanks to all for the great advice.
