Micro ring games, need help

I was wondering if anyone had a good strategy for the micro level donkey fest ring games. I've been getting hammered at the 0.05/0.10 NL ring.

What I've noticed this past 2 days is:

c-bets are worthless. These people will call you down to the end of time with any draw.

bluffs don't work, ever. ever. ever. Phone booths ( calling stations ) can't be bluffed, they will call down with Jack high.

If they hit any part of the flop, they are married to the hand, and disconnect the fold button.

There is no such thing as a "starting hand requirement" for these people. I got squished by a person playing a 5-7 offsuit, even after raising PF.

How do you adjust your game to this abysmal level of play?

What % of flops is normal to see? The last 100 hands, not counting the BB free flops, I saw 21 flops. Is that about right?

I'm not sure why I'm bad at this, or if it's just a bad string of luck. I started being FAR more aggressive betting, over betting the pot etc. But lately what's happened is I sloooooowly build up my stack, then lose it all in one hand. Then sloooooowly build it up, lose it in one hand. repeat.

I do well in SNG's and MTT's but not in ring games, trying to figure out a good system.

I just saw someone call a NINE times the BB preflop raise, out of position, with a K 4 off suit. How do you play against these fish? I'm at a loss. (literally and figuratively speaking)

Just play a lot of drawing hands such as suited aces and suited connectors, fish for sets, etc. And bet your made hands STRONG because like you said; they're not folding for sure!

Dont bluff them then! Make it expensive for them and punish them for calling down with crap. Try to stay away from them with single pairs as they probably wont let you know that they are holding better. And always fold when they raise, unless your holding the nuts.

Betting flops when its checked round is pretty good too, take down the small pots when possible.

I too was like you once.Did really good in the MTTs and sucked in ring games. I took a look at what I was doing wrong and what these donkeys were doing. Here is some advice that I have. Fold any crap hands. And I mean keeping only high pairs or high suited connectors. You will be folding about 70-80 % of your hands but it will be worth it.

When you do get that good hand bet 3 or 4x BB PF. With these donks you will get at least one or two callers. At the flop if you catch a good one, bet just shy of the pot. Either you get them to fold or they are really stupid and you will be doing them a favor and taking thier cash.

Just keep on betting like this on the turn and the river. Occassionaly you will take one bad beat but overall you will be profitable.

One big thing though, set an amount in your mind to break off at. At micro tables with $1 buyin I will bring the minimum in, bring it up to my limit,(usually $10), and leave. I find this stops me from making some stupid calls because its very tempting to loosen up your play with these donks.

you can make a profit....just dont play these games. play sng's to build your bakroll instead and then play higher limit games. you cant bluff at bad players and its not fun to sit at a ring game table and fold and fold and fold in order to just play premium hands

Here's an article/post that helped me tremendously in dealing with donkfests:

It's not a 100% fool-proof plan, but it will improve your chances in these games. It sure helped me. I also like to keep really good notes on big donkeys. If I can remember their habits, it's a big help.

Got hammered again tonight, lost 2 buy ins.

Hit trip 8's on the flop, put the guy all in on the turn and he showed KK, river was a King. Destacked.

Had pocket 9's, entire board was all under cards, no straight or flush. Wiped out to pocket Jacks. Destacked.

Trip Kings loses to flush on the river, guy called a 7xBB raise PF with J2 sooted, then went all in with 2 clubs on the flop. Hit the last club on the river. Destacked.

My BR can absorb it, but wow is it annoying lol

I'm going to keep at it and not tilt, I'm convinced I can suceed at this. I keep telling myself that bad beats are a good thing (it's the mistakes I still make that are the bad part)

Well I think I might take the advice and go back to SNG's after losing 3 buy ins tonight I need to build up some BR again, down to $125 from $152 this morning. These micro ring games seem to be more gambling than poker.

Ah well, tomorrows another day !
