Low Pockets and AQ This is my first post, and I'm just curious to how everyone plays these hands. I have made many final tables and have cashed out over 2k, I have noticed that everytime i get knocked out of a tournament it is with low pockets or AQ. My philosophy with low pockets is to raise pre flop take one shot at a "bluff" if you don't hit trips and higher cards come. With Ace Queen i usually just call small raises or the blind and see if I hit. For some reason these hands just destroy me, a little information on a better way to play them would be wonderful. Thanks.

I assume we are talking about tounies here Depends on where i get them. If i get them in late position, it is like magic to me since i raise from late position with any old junk first into a pot, so when i actually have a hand it is golden. So late position = raising and taking it from there. However with the game i play, i never ever go into a pot without being the aggressor, so depending on my stack size i fold these in late position to a raise if i have a medium stack purely because i usually gain chips at a good enough rate not to call a raise and ope to hit a flop, when your the aggressor you dont need to hit a flop. With a shortstack i will push to a raise with these and as a large stack i would be re raising with position. From early position however i usually fold a,q and any pair below 8's just because i would rather raise with 10-4 on the button than raise with a,q out of position since both have jsut about same percentage to hit a flop, but in position you have more of an option to take the pot down. I never win much when i raise from early position so i never do with high pock pairs or a,k (Basically a hand i am willing to call an all in with) A LOT of people will disagree with the way i play those hands, but position is what makes me money, not the cards i have.

playing pocket pairs depends on your position. I play sevens and higher in any position. fives and sixes in middle positions and twos, threes and fours in late position. when i get AK, AQ, AJ it depends on my position again, i will raise pre-flop from any position. check-raise post flop if i'm in early position and re-raise if i'm in late position depending on the situation and how my opponents are playing. i would check fold the turn if i hit nothing on the turn
