Losing faith in poker...

Seriously, I have been playing for the last few months and no matter what I do I cannot put together a game long enough to cash big. I've tried everything.

I usually play loose-aggressive then tighten up, I've played super tight and everything but being a jackass.

This is why I am losing faith in poker. *note The last 10 games I've played I cashed once and most times I went out like this.

You need luck to cash big. You can play perfect and a majority of the time you will not even cash if you are playing for the top few spots (which you should be). MTT's are very very high variance.

Try switching this around? Starting off tight and then loosening up as the blinds get higher is standard, not the other way around.

If you get your money in good a lot of the time, the numbers will even out over the long run. However, even getting it in good all the time doesn't mean you should expect all of your hands to hold up. For example, if you get your money in 80/20 three times, you should only expect all three to hold up roughly half the time. 80/20 holding up a couple times is not standard, it's getting lucky.

we all get bad beats on a regular basis, its part of the game, as long as you know that youre playing well it ll come,

my advice would be to take a break, watch the pros play, read a book, and you ll come back with a renewed confidence

may the poker gods be with you, good luck at the tables

The worst thing you can do is start playing worse because of your streak. Ive seen people go on a down swing and then start playing like a friggin idiot to make things even worse.

Just know. Poker is a cruel game. Only those with thick skin make it deep.

re: Losing faith in poker...

The difference between 81% and 100% can really mind rape people in this silly game. 100% happens everytime, but 81% only happens 4 out of 5 times, which when you think about it is pretty freakin' often. Lots of major league baseball players have batting averages of around 20%. So while its unlikely that ball players will get a hit, they still score several runs in a game. 20% happens a LOT, get used to it.

You will take bad beats. The challange is to look past them (because you cannot control them), and focus on things that you can control. And I'm betting big $ that you've been doing some terrible things that you can control that's limiting your game.

Hi

Hi,

First off maybe you should lay off tournaments for a while and play solid steady cash games. If you play ok you should have more winning than losing sessions and it should recharge your enjoyment and confidence.

Tournaments can be a bitch sometimes.....

Also no matter what you do respect sound bankroll managment strategies!!

Hang in there and im sure itl work out...one of the November nine, Kevin Schaeffel told of how he went through an extremely painful and long losing streak despite his best efforts and he was losing way more money than you or I..and look at where he ends up....
