loose tables?

I've been pondering this for a few days, and here's some background info. I've been four-tabling 5/10nl 6max on full tilt lately. I've done ok overall, but it seems to me that I seem to be more profitable when playing with a couple of regs and a couple of fish/complete donks. Lately, I've found tables with a vpip of 60+ (which I thought should be a good thing.) I sit, play tight aggressive, try to stick to the game I know, wait for good cards to fall and play them appropriately. At times I will win pretty well. But around the table after about 100 hands, I find that I'll be down around ten bucks when it is filled with fish and donks that are 60/40 etc. The problem is that I cannot push them out of a hand (when you are either cbetting or sitting on a good hand.) They obviously havent noticed that I've been playing around 20/15 and are thinking on the first level. I know you can't bluff bad players. But what can you do when you have tptk are on the button, everyone checks to you, and you bet the pot for the fact that you know the other three cold callers are going to follow? I've tried bumping the blinds preflop up to around 6 or 7 times with four limpers and I'm on the button (and I realize that is just giving them more ev to call, but the idea here is to make them look at their K5 and think is this really worth 70c?).....but that only seems to push out around one of em. It just feels like I'm playing freerolls or on the play chips side. Maybe I've just been on a cold run at those tables,....I dunno...bottom line, I'm sick of donks drawing out on me....So what my overall question is, do you think there is something as "too loose" of a table. I.e. should I stay away from putting money on the tables that are almost play chip.....

Are you talking $5/10 NL or $.05/.10 NL?

I ask because this doesn't sound anything like FTP's 5/10 tables.

I will usually only open two 5/10 NL tables max at FTP and find I am usually sitting at the same table as at least one or two players at both and I have to really pay attention.

It is usually fairly TAG, with the occasional tricky pot played by a couple players that know each other from past games. The occasional Donk might show up, but for the most part, the $1000 NL tables are fairly solid.

(ie-Lost a big pot last night with 2/4 Diamonds to 6/3 Diamonds when both of us turned the flush. We started out the hand with both of us making the same play, but both of us made hands. Pretty fun hand in the end. I love it when I actually get to play poker instead of the cards)

If you are down $10 after 100 hands, it appears to me that you are talking about $10 NL.

I apologize if I'm wrong, but it's tough to analyze a problem without all of the information.

Actually 5/10 nl = 5/10 nl (1knl). Its .05/.10 or 10nl. I kind of agree with you, I don't look for the loosest tables. I play 6max micro also and I'd rather have a table with a couple decent players and a couple fish. I guess you should be able to make more with a really loose table in the long run, but it takes more adjustment than I'm comfortable making.

Yep I like about 2-4 loose rest tight. Too many people that will not lay down a hand does not work well for me at all.

I was pretty sure that without the dollar sign in front of it, it was the lower version....i.e. 10nl would be .05/.10nl and $10nl would be $5/$10nl......maybe im just a rook though...

I have a habit of playing 4 micro...and I also would rather have decent players at the table instead of fish. I don't believe that they don't notice what you are doing when you try to push them out. I believe they just don't care and lately FTP seems to reward them for it and we get that bad beat. lol Good Luck!

Loose tables can drive anyone mad though, hit a set, get raised by a flush draw, get outdrawn, throw computer out the window, and so on.

Theres a good post somewhere on here that brings up a good point and it's one that you should keep in mind. Don't let the short-term results become more important than the long term ones. The fact is that there are a lot of donks at the lower limits who will call you down w/ any pair on the board, and sometimes they get lucky, but the majority of the time you should take it down.

I usually sit at 2 .25/.50 tables and I usually look for the higher VP tables and it usually works out for me. I wait for the cards and find the guys who are gonna pay me off, then just sit and watch it happen. I think maybe youre just going through a little slump right now but I'm betting if you step back and look over your results for the last 2 weeks, 2 months, etc you'll see it was just a minor bump

wow ok i was about to say. Well if your trying to drive out fish and they are calling every raise then go into switch and dont follow them street to streen with nothing, and if you have somthing, maximize your ev, make more money. You want them to call every bet and raise dont you, just see if you dont get laced with cash over time from them calling with air and calling with least best hands.

I've been experiencing this too at 25NL 6max (4 tabling) - a couple of weeks ago, I started explicitly looking for the loosest tables I could find, and it didn't seem to work for me - I'm having better success with a balance of TAGs and loose passive fish.

In the lobby when choosing tables, I was sorting tables by Plrs/Flop and then by Avg Pot (on PS), and then choosing the loosest (40%+) I could find. I've recently started sorting by Avg Pot then by Plrs/Flop, and looking for the biggest $ where the Plrs/Flop is between 28% and 35%. It seems like it's been a little better, not sure, just playing with these ideas.

What are you guys looking for in table selection? I know table selection is addressed in the microstakes thread as well, but I don't think Dcor's specific concern here is addressed?

I really hate super loose tables or players. I have had moments where I lost $100 on a 25max table in an hour. If you avoid playing big pots with top pair you may do well. To many times do i lose hands with top pair and the loose player had two pair with q-5 off suit. Your best bet is to wait for a big hand and make them pay for drawing. Most donks will call pot sized bets or more on their draws so use that to your advantage.
