loose players i have a question. does any one have any ideas how to play against loose players? I play a live game every wednesday and this one guy who went like a year with out cashing, has been in the money every week for like the last two and half months. Must be good you say? no, he limps in with every hand and if gets raised he calls. position means nothing to him i dont even think he understands position he chases every flush or straight pot odds are way above his thinking its like he says to him self i call maybe i will get lucky. the sick thing is he does get lucky. Here is one of many examples UTG limps next guy raises 4xbb i have pkt AA re raise the size of the pot everyone elses folds to loosey in the bb it cost him 550 to make the call wich he does without even thinking about it the initial raiser folds. flop come out 524 rainbow bb bets 800 now i think he is on a draw probably got an ace (he is known to bet big on draws) so i push all in he calls and flips over 45 off suite like he is a genius lucky for me turn 3 lucky for him river 6 we chop. this is the kind of bs he plays and the luck he is catching. I need help.

Sounds like you need to play super tight and stay away from this guy unless you have the nuts. The problem with loose players like this is that they catch crazy hands that you can never put them on. The only thing you can do it tighten up against this guy and make him pay through the nose when you do hit a monster hand. Don't get fancy sounds like he will just out play you. After you establish a super tight image and he KNOWS if you bet you got the goods then maybe you can loosen up a little bit.

hey i have a similar "problem" with this but the good thing is this is where you will make most of your profit, on others mistakes so sit behind this player and if he limps just limp along and dont raise to force others out cause you want to control the size of the pot until you know you're good

The OP isn't really clear if the looseness of the player is new or not. If it is new then obviously yes he has improved/adapted his game to be able to take advantage of other players. If the style isn't new then 50/50 improvement or hot streak. Just my thoughts

re: loose players poker there is no such thing as luck, as it was said before. just play your game, maybe be a little more cautious against him. against a loose player, you want to slow play the big hands, as he will likely keep bluffing trying to steal. just re-raise after the river if you have the nuts or something you believe to be the best hand and he will realize that he cannnot steal from you, and will likely become a bit more cautious, or should anyway. just do not get into betting wars with him, as he wont fold, as you said.

thanks every one for the help even though i knew play tight and only play strong when my hand hits was the strategy wich i had tried but he always seemed to catch up in the hand so i wass looking for another alternative or maybe just seeing if my adjustments in my game were "proper" but any how last game we played he was back to being the unlucky calling station in fact his chips dwindled so fast he was out before the third blind level someone even made a comment as he was leaving "get ready for a long losing streak " in fact when he went all in everyone called and he got knocked out by a pair of 3's lol

re: loose players poker Sounds like a player who has 'learned' more from playing online and taken that back to the live table/game with him. In our live games here, we can usually tell when an internet fish has joined the table. It closely matches the 'new style' you're describing.

Just a quick update about that guy who I thought was extremely lucky at my Mon/Wed tourney's. He wasn't just extremely lucky, HE WAS CHEATING, hahahaha. A few of our players caught him in the act while he was dealing. You might wanna check if this guy is cheating haha. Anyway, that guy can't be lucky forever, or he might just be cheating. Let me know if anything changes.

That is terrible. Did you kick him out of the game, or kick his ass? Fortunately, in my home game I have not had any card mechanics (or they were good enough to go undetected) but we did have that problem with a bad dealer in a local card club. |
