A little help pls

I play a tight game and when I finally bet on a hand folks drop like I'm the plague. Here's what hands I normally play:

AA
KK
QQ
JJ
AK
AQ
AJ
A 10
pocket pairs if I get them REAL cheap. I.E. 1 blind bet

My normal raise is 3x the blinds, once I do people drop like a rock. What do I need to do to get a bigger payoff for my hands?

maby you should try slow playing. and give people enough rope to hang theirselves while you cash in big time.or read some good books for more information ,i just read holdem wisdom for all players by daniel negreanu it was really informative .

Where are you playing ? Because from my experience, at micro limits, there's always players who will not care about table image and tangle with you when you do bet, thus insuring a small but steady flow of chips to your stack.

But if you're playing with decent to good players, they can read you like an open book and put you on a narrow (and dangerous) range once you've entered a pot and thus fold unless they have AA or KK. The easy answer is to mix up your raising/betting patterns and maybe broaden your range of playable hands (things like suited connectors, valuing more pocket pairs, etc.) If you keep up a tight image while doing so, you will probably lure people into overevaluing your hand, wich is good, and think you've missed the flop when 8-9-2 comes while you are in fact holding 8-9...

You may be playing too tight and people are getting a read on you. Two things you can work into your game slowly so as not to over do it. One, play tighter from early position and being to loosen up your starting hand requirements moving into later position. Two, begin raising a bit more with lesser holding from late position. Since your opponents seems to like to give you so much credit for being a rock, capitalize on it and increase your bluffing a little (repeat, A LITTLE). Don't over do this or they'll figure it out as well.

There are other things you can do as well, but start slow and work little things into your game to see the effect it has. Then move on to other changes. It often doesn't take a lot of tweaks to alter your perspective on games.

Oh, and btw, when you first sit at a table, play your normal game for a bit to build that table image you typically get pegged for, THEN make the changes above.

Finally, yes, if you're in late position (CO or button) with QQ-AA, try slow playing a little preflop to see what happens before either turning on the heat or letting go after the flop. Don't be surprised to see the occasional suckout happen when you do this though, so don't get married to the hand if you truly think you're beaten by a higher hand.

When youre in Button or cutoff, loosen up ur preflop raising requirements. Do the occasional 87suited raise, and maybe show your hand if you win it with an uncontested c-bet.

And nothing wrong with calling with pocket pairs even if its not a cheap limp.

POcket pairs hitting a set against a preflop raiser are pretty much the hands that make the most money.

AA and such wont make you money unless you come accross KK or QQ which is rare.

98s and such, pocket pairs, you should start playing those hands too.

Well I would limp in with those hands because your opponents can tell your really tight player. Also, if possible try to switch gears or loosen up once in a while.

Limping in MP with KK or even AA is a pretty much a mistake (sometimes it can be good, especially if you have position and pot has been reraised already) since you won't:
a) control the size of the pot
b) give improper odds for later callers (if any)

But limping in with lesser holdings late could be a good idea, that or showing some bluffs (if you're up against decent players, some people just look at their cards and won't let you bluff them).

Well, you're a tight player and the other players know that. This is called table image. They view you as a tight player so every time you raise, they know you have a great hand. Now is the time to get away from that image. So, raising with hands you don't normally raise with when you're in late position with limpers. They will fold the majority of the time and you win many small pots.

Never slow play AA-KK you can possibly try this in SnG heads up if you know your up against aggressive players.

To benefit from your table image raise on the button or CO if everyone limps into the hand with a few hands like KQ/JQ s even some low pockets or suited connectors. If you have a tight table image if you did hit with a low pair people wont see it. This kind of play is quite tricky so be carefu becuase you have the advantage of acting late you get to see if people have hit as well as watching the texture of the board to ensure no one is slow playing a monster.

Stay tight .. play the game your comfortable with, this is your base of operations. Every once in a while send out a patrol and scout out the opposition. If the opposition is weak change gears and play LAG.

If your scouts see trouble brewing or strength in the opposition, change gears again and come back to your base.

These little scouting expeditions will make you look loose, weak and easy prey. Once your back at base they will think your scouts are still out and you can hammer the opposition within your comfort zone.

If they think your base is heavily fortified they will only retreat, you've got to create the impression of weakness and then ambush the opposition.

Note: I don't like slowplaying ... SLOWPLAYING KILLS! Traps should be used sparingly under selective circumstances and only experiance can teach you what those circumstances are.

Keep playing those hands a tight game is good. My strategy would be this though. Early on and once about every 20 hands make a reraise with junk from different positions and if you steal dont muck your cards or if you can get to the river rather cheaply to be able to show your cards do that. Predictability will cause you to get hammered eventually.

You could look for very loose tables to play your tight game. You could try playing 45 player sit&goes where a tight game might do better. You could play more mtt where a tight game might be less obvious to others. Finding the right tables and formats to suit the game you are already comfortable with would be your safest move until you add more tricky plays to your game. Good luck.
