Limit Vs. NL
I have just started to dabble at some low limit holdem games. Like .25 and .50. Now what changes will I have to make from NL to Limit. I have tightened up a bit and value pairs more. I dont know if this is correct but advice is greatly appreciated.

I generally only really play NL holdem when I am in a tournament or a sit and go.
Limit play you have to tighten up more post flop as you can't bet someone off the pot, its generally not a lot for people to call, so bluffing almost always isn't worth it. Chances are also if there are a lot of people seeing the flop and there is either a straight or a flush draw then someone is more than likely going to stay in the pot chasing it. On the plus side as its generally not a lot more for them to call bet away with your better hands and more time than not they will call with the losing hand. Best advice I can give that I have learnt the hard way is to not bluff (unless maybe heads up) and be careful playing from the blinds (big leak for me that I am working on) Thats not to say never bluff but a lot of the time it won't work, as I have found out to my cost. |

I personally LOVE NL more then Limit, however its weird becasue i make all my money in LIMIT and lose it all in NL.
It's just the satisfaction at bluffing and reading that gets me. But if your looking for serious money making, hi limit poker is where you wanna be...(kinda a combination of both!) you won't get trash callers, and you can still buy a few pots! See y'all at the FREEROLLS!! PAttyG - LOOK OUT! |

Good advice by all :)
Hi all,
Good advice especially from Grumbledook, in Limit games you have to hit something good on the flop to keep going, no sense in bluffing as most will chase as it doesn't cost a lot. I always presumed that limit games were really for beginners, saved you losing all your chips in one go, a good place to learn. Plus side is that if you got a good hand which is beatable it won't cost you dearly to find out, down side is if you flop the nuts ( best hand ) you then wish you was at no limit, lol. For me personally Limit games are too long, I prefer no limit tourneys with as little people as i can find, preferably 5 or 6, occasionally 10, most of these are over with in less than an hour so I can play around 6 to 8 tourneys a day. If you don't win too many sit-n-go's then limit games are probably your best bet, you get a better run for your money I suppose. Whichever you decide, good luck at the tables ![]() Tony ( The Webmaster ) |

Limit is a science No Limit is an art.
If you learn odds and probabilities and position you will come out ahead at limit, but the cards do have to fall at limit. Don't value big pairs that much in limiit. Drawing hands win more because home runs win big hands at limit. Not saying don't play them but you will fold them alot on the turn. No Limit the beauty is that there is much more skill involved. You play your opponent just as much as you play your hand. Disadvantage is the money swings are much more significant in No Limit. Just some random thoughts with no actual thought put into them LOL |

Limit vs NoLimit
Bluffing is almost impossible in Limit poker. I know personally though I would prefer to play limit poker for your standard poker night or what have you. As far as tournaments go I would rather play no limit.

online limit
online limit is pretty questionable. It seems like every flop is like AKQ all hearts or something, and it seems like every draw hits when your holdin top pair or better. The problem with limit is that you cant bet the draws out of the pot. For example if the flop comes down A34 clubs, and you have A8, you can only bet .50 (at a .25/.50) table. so obviously the guy with 56 is gonna call, and k9 of clubs is gonna call too. Now you have to sweat a club, a 3 and a 7, and the opposing players will only have to call 1.50 to see 2 cards! that gives them 17 outs combined. This is a worst case situation, but it happens all the time.

i play both limit and nl...i prefer limit in cash games as my bankroll isnt where i want it to be,,nl has huge swings that i cannot handle with my bankroll...i like limit and abide by the 300x bb rule...i dont sway from that as it helps deal with variance,

NL is by far the best - you get too many people who are raise-happy in Limit, and a $20 call (tournaments, lets say) turns into an $80 ncall too quickly - at least in NL, you can see how high a player intends to go, then you can fold if you need to without too much of a hit to your bankroll.
