Levelling up
I seem to be doing pretty well at the $50 NLHE cash tables at PokerRoom (completely pwning if I'm being immodest
). Maybe I'm just being lucky, or there's just a high number of donks around. But I'm looking towards $100 or higher and wondering what I need to look out for.I know I need to work up my bankroll to the requisite level of 20x the buy-in, so I'll hold off till then. Recently been making 1-2 buy-ins a day in a couple of hours' play, so if all goes well this shouldn't take too long. This question goes to anyone who plays regularly (and wins) at the $100+ tables... basically how much tougher does it get at $100 and $200 and $500, and what changes do I need to make to my strategies? I played these briefly (i.e. once) at a $200 table on PKR, played ultra-tight and made a profit by the end of it. But in general do I need to play tighter, more creatively etc... also do you get the same number of people stacking off to you with feeble holdings? Is the answer just to give it a go and see if I can keep winning? I suppose what I'm really saying is, ANY TIPS? ![]() |

The play doesn't really vary too much from 0.50/1.00 to any stake on most sites.
I've always wondered why this is... I think its generally because, at higher stakes - people have more money to play around with and lose. You also bump into some pure gamblers looking for a big win. On some sites, the smaller ones mainly. There is a big difference as you move up stakes. However on the larger sites like Poker Stars and Full Tilt, you can often find a game that suits your type of play at almost any level. Be it Super tight or loose crazy. Good Luck! |

Do you think there's a noticeable difference between 0.25/0.50 ($50 NL) and 0.50/1.00 ($100 NL)? |

On Empire Poker I found the .50/1 tables easier actually. I'm consistently getting people calling off my big hands far more than on the smaller tables.
I may be seriously under bankrolled for this level (around $600 after a bad weekend), but I've been making steady profit so far. I moved up to test the water (quite prepared to move down & grind if I lost the $100) and haven't looked back since. Myx |

I kind of noticed a big difference between 0.25/0.50 and 0.50/1 because more people seem to be able to mix up their play and make moves against you in 0.50/1.
But again, it depends on the site and tables. You can ALWAYS find a table that suits you at most levels if you look around different sites. Thats why I keep my bankroll in Neteller, it allows me to move anywhere I wish. ![]() |
