Lesson for me; Who is the bigger idiot?

Playing early in a VIP freeroll, calling a limped pot from late position w56s. About 6 in the hand. Flop comes 55K, K and one of the 5s of the same suit (not mine, obv). Checked around until the player right before me pushes (slightly bigger stack than mine).

I put him on either the other 5 or a flush draw. If he hits the flush, I'm out, if he has the other 5 he likely has a better kicker than me. If his better kicker gets counterfeited, we split so I figure it's not worth calling.

He takes it down and then I realize a K is a more likely holding for him, which I failed to even consider. Then what he claimed to have was AA.


Who do you think played this worse?

I wouldnt fold a set of fives to an open push, much less in a freeroll. The odds of him having a K are a lot bigger than a 5.

You played it OK, in my book. He is obv a fool to play AA that way.

Of course, in a freeroll all manner of crazy stuff happens. However, if we give villain the benefit of the doubt and assume he is a decent player, it doesn`t make sense for him to shove all-in on that flop with a King. Nobody will call who doesn`t have a 5, so a move of that sort will either win him a pathetic little pot if there is no 5 out there, or lose him a huge one if there is.

If your going to limp with suited connectors and fold when you flop trips with one over card when someone shoves, why are you playing them?

Villian is in a freeroll, he limps with AA hoping someone will raise/shove. It doesnt happen and he shoves what isnt a bad flop. Not played that bad but i would of raise preflop.

Because what you are ideally looking for is the straight.

A flush, trips, or two pair might also be good, or might get you knocked out of the tourney if overplayed. You can`t win an MTT in the early levels, but you can lose it.

I can make a straight with 2-6

It's a freeroll, there's a flush draw out there, and he might be doing this with a king. We have to get our stack in. These are the pots we play for with 56s.

Unless we've got at least a few hundred hands on villain and know he wouldn't stick his stack in here without a hand that has your small trips beat, and I'm assuming we don't as you didn't mention it, we have to get our stack in.

who cares who played it worse? simple fact is your flop fold is horrible (it's good that you seen to realise this though ), it's a freeroll, people will shove here with all sorts of crap that you're beating.

as for "if he hits the flush i'm out", well yeah, if he has Q7 and hits running queens you're out too, doesn't mean you should be folding.

Yep, that was pretty much my thinking afterwards, even before he said what he claimed to have.

It's like, 1.5 level thinking; thinking about what he might have, but missing about half the hands he might have had. A bigger 5, flush draw, or nothing is all that came to mind. K, other pocket pair bigger than a 5 I didn't even consider.



Mind you, I wouldn't have put him on TT+ anyways. I'd expect something more preflop.

Nine, you're better than this, how can you even consider folding this in a freeroll?

As far as freerolls go it's my favourite. On CDP, only available to those with money accounts, usually 250-400 players, small stacks/relatively fast blinds so it doesn't take too long. Still a lot of donkey plays early on but this play was way too tight.

It's a dream flop for your hand; gotta play it BIG. As for limping w/AA into a multi player pot, it's a horrible play, and I don't personally believe it. Esp. in a freeroll! If it's true, he deserved to have his pocket picked, and you in a prime spot to do it.

I woulda raised preflop anyways. In late position and 6 players to a flop... no sir. 67 of dimez isn't a monster or anything but by raising you limit the # of hands and it can still flop pretty big. Granted you probably would have ran into AA this time if he reraised but if he smooth calls there is your monster.
