| I`m new but starting to understand I would suggest a few things depend on this, as Chuck says. Do u want to win the tourny? Is the guy going all in the short or largest stack? Does he normally play v tight? Is the position u r in at the moment gonna win u decent amount? etc, etc. Another point to remember here is if u go with him u will have to go with the cards - he is definatly pot committed!!! I think I`m right in saying AK is only a bad all in call against AA or KK. QQ, JJ, 1010 puts u as a slight dog, but no more than about 55% TO 45% in the other guys favour - so about even money. If u want my personal opinion, I always play more aggresivly with AK than I do with AA or KK. I take a chance, even in latter stages of tourny. Therefore, I might have gone all in pre flop. That way, u will find out if he`s bluffing, but at least the ball is in his court. So, in summary, I would have gone all in and if he had AA, KK unlucky, if he had QQ, JJ, etc I still have a chance. If he has AQ, AJ, etc, I`m laughing!!! (until after the river, that is!!!) I would be interested to hear what the other guys think about what I have said. Also, what did happen??? Happy hunting. | re: Late in tourney with AK, what do you do here? poker There are a lot of reasons why going all in late in a tourney with AK is the appropriate call. First of all, the blinds at this stage in the tourney are so high that you can't afford to be wasting blinds. Second of all, you could have crappy luck and you could be up against AA or KK, but it's highly unlikely. Sure, you are likely up against a PP of some kind, but you could be against AQ or AJ, and in that case you have your opponent dominated at this point. If you are against a PP, you run the risk of hitting nothing, but I like my chances here unless I am up against AA or KK. Third, if you are too scared to committ your stack to a pot with AK, then you should just post and fold every hand because you are too scared to win. Fourth, if you are the one ahead in chips, your opponent is putting his tournament life on the line here. I would like to know chip count for each of you so I know exactly where he stands. My guess is that he is trying to buy the blinds here so that he can stick around a little bit longer. At any rate, I make this call 100% of the time. |
