late registration

in the multi table tournaments now in ftp there is a late registration were you could join late in all the tournaments... the question i wanted to asked all is. did you join late for the tournaments trying to take some adventaje or you just join in time??? for example in the 0.10 rebuy tournament i join with the late registration because some donkeys lose in the first 8 minutes... i think in some tournaments, especially in micro limits enter there with late registration is more adventaje than joining on time.

Late registration can be helpful in a Guaranteed tourney if you're waiting to see if there's an overlay. Then again, lots of others will jump in at the last minute thinking the same thing and the overlay disappears.

I suppose there may be some tiny advantage to later registration as you may save a few chip from not having to had pay blinds...

but on the other hand you might have missed what would have been a monster pot ......so theres no telling

like katymaty said......if you want to avoid the early stage bingo donkfest, just sit out for a bit at the beginning

I dont think that late registration is fair....people are paying blinds or antes and then someone can join without having to pay the blinds or antes they missed so far

really dont like the FTP late registration,...they allow people to register after players have been eliminated....at least Pokerstars late reg. closes as soon as 1st player is out

The late reg on FT was a good idea - carried too far. Open til the end of the first level is too long, IMO.

Yes, Stars has it too, but not in every tourney. If they have a formula, I've never figured out what it is. Some close immediately and others stay open a few minutes, but not a full level of blinds that I've ever noticed.

I want to get in right away to take advantage of the bad play that seems to plague the early part of tounaments. I only late reg I do is like socorro said, when getting a good overlay.

Generally the beginnings of the tournament are where you get the easiest opportunities to double up. I'd think it'd be a big mistake to register late.

Yeah, I don't often have a hand to take advantage of them, but the worst players are trying to get allin right away or just making big mistakes early. By signing up late you might miss the first round of blinds and save 2% of your stack but that is not worth the trade off. You should want to see as many of these cheap hands as you can.

I agree. I don't like how a Full Tilt tourney can double in size after starting. I like to know what size tournament I'm getting myself into.

I hate it so muuuuuch. For forum freerolls it give donks time to ask for a password and you always have those 2 or 3 d tards who will fibe it out. In $10+ mtt it sucks also because people know the timing of the end of the late reg and they can decide if the pot is good or bad(size and ratio of return on investment for in cash or and final table) for them and see if there are many donks out there that they can pray on.

I believe late registration is allowed for the first 10 minutes of the tourney on the ones I have seen on Absolute Poker. I haven't seen much advantage to using it.

The late registration is allowed for 10 mins, which is perfect for people like me that didn't make the starting time, and remembered about the tourney once it started.

To me, its just ridiculous to have LR. The only benefit is to the site, which takes it as a way to grab more buyin fees.
To those who say it helps them when they are late registering, what happens when they are late for late registration?
It's just a pain. I hate to see the field keep growing as the game continues... and overlays get eliminated as people buy in late, as someone said, so it is just generally a very bad thing IMHO.

that would actually be less effective if you join late, because "donkeys get knocked out early." if you pick up a big hand early, and donkeys are shoving every hand, you're losing value

Unless it's a rebuy I find that I feel that I'm at a disadvantage when registering late.

As far as the ten cent rebuy's goes I like to be in early. The rebuy's are the only tournaments that I would consider entering late.

I don't like Full Tilt making all of their tournaments late registration and have pretty much stopped playing them unless they are rebuy's. I wish they would make some of them no late registration. It's to hard to calculate your odds when you know there will be late entries and entering late can put you into a hole right from the start.

They should do it like they do at the casino's for late entries. They seat you at a seat where the blinds were paid as they came around, so that you don't get the full stack unless the blinds hadn't reached that seat yet.

The only advantage I can see is for those that sit out the first 10 minutes of the game. I see this all the time They would save paying blinds. It really is unfair because their needs to be some kind of penalty for not playing your hand and all players should start together in tournament. I dislike late registration.

re: late registration

I've noticed that full tilt and pokerstars has different ways of late registration, how long does it last in both softwares?

This. Only reason I like it - I'm not the most organized person ever.

I don't like it for the fact that you are not docked chips.... You shouldn't be allowed to start in a late reg. tournament and get the starting chip stack..... If you are an alternate it is one thing, but a late reg. should be docked so many chips for the blinds.

I am annoyed by this new feature. I do not understand why should they apply this to ALL tourneys. From what I understand, before the tourney FT reserves a certain amount of seats and if they do not fill up by the start of the game, the late registration is open until the reserved seats are filled.
I find it annoying because when I sign up for a tourney I like to see what the payout odds are against the amount of people. Turns out 5 min later there are 50 more people on the list I have to play against.
Or sometimes I look at the amount of people that have joined the game and I figure out how long is the tourney going to last...well, with the new feature, noone really knows...
One example....I signed up for a PL 4k guarrantee tourney ($24) and we had about 120 people, which would had been super great under the old sign-up rules. well, by the time registration closed, there were almost 200 people in the tourney, thus breaking the 4k guarantee payout.
I don't mind if they have this for certain tourneys, but it's crazy to allow it for all. I think it's a disadvantage.

Another prob with LR is that, sure donks get knocked out, but that means you may be joining a table with 2 or 3 gorillas with huge stacks

If you like to take a lot of cheap shots at hitting big pots then you don't want to do the late registration but if you want to come in and play when the blinds are enough to play for then do late registration... It all depends on your poker strategy and ability... i can do either or the both have benefits and disadvantages

here is one instance where i dont like it. say your in a 30k grtd tourney and there is not near enough players in to cover the grt. by the time late registration is over, your way over the grt. and swamped with people. blecch

re: late registration

I've actually learned quite a bit in this little thread. The only advantage to ontime registration that I might add (to the 'making $$ off the donks') is this... It's great getting a nice starting hand early. But I don't expect to. In the meantime, it's worth my blinds (especially) when they are so LOW, to observe and pick up reads.

Overlay... Is that the point at which the 'K guaranteed' is no longer a bargain? The break even point for the house?

For those interested - I had the late registration option removed from our FT freerolls because of all of the password beggars at the tables.

My biggest complaint is that I enter a tourney with 120 ppl. expecting that I am compteting against that # and that it should take a certain amt of time. By the time late reg is over sometimes that # has nearly doubled Increaseing the competition and the expected lenghth of the game.

I think its a complete disadvatage to register late. Ive heard from many pros saying the more hands a pro has the better. So the only advantge to registering late is nothing cause you see less hands in the tourny.

Bravo Dakota!!!!!

I don't really mind late reg...as I play small stakes on PS normally...IF I play a guaranteed money tourney it's usually WAY over....BUT, I do see the arguement......it's certainly a great idea for the sites themselves..some of these games get a couple hundred more people in the late reg.

Like everyone says play really tight the first few minutes. that way you don't miss out on any great hands by waiting late to register. Also something could happen to cause you to not be able to register in time. (Program crash, dog chews through you mouse cord etc)

It's defenatly got it's differances. Sometimes it's good to wait till the blinds get larger, though on the other hand you miss those early tourny donks. Also yes you do have the chance of joining a table of 3-4 gorillas at the table.

I don't see an advantage unless you are waiting to see if the guaranteed tournies go over or stay under....otherwise play tight at the beginning and let the donkeys be.
