just lost $300 in 1 week help!!! need good startegy

hello ppl this is my 1st post....

i am not happy at all as i lost my $300 in a week to either being very unlucky or to really bad players!!!!

i am gonna give some examples of my scenarios and plz tell me what i did wrong thanks.

1. im in early position i have 9-2 off suit i just call and few ppl raise and re raise so i fold.

the flop comes 9 2 2 turn A river K some guy wins with pair of Aces. ( but i just folded a full house!!!! ) i guess that happens a lot.

2. i have KK and on the button ppl called BB before me so i raised 3x BB and got 1 caller.....
the flop comes K 5 9 so the guy bets 6x pot so in this position i re raised him and he went all in and i called..... we turn over our cards i have KK he has 55 turn comes A and river comes a 5!!!! what a blow to me i have an house and he gets 4 of a kind!!!! how unlucky is that!!!

3. i have A K suited and 1st to act i raise 4x BB and got 2 callers the flop comes A 10 2 so i bet a good amount so they fold right there... but both called so the turn came K so i bet again the pot amount and 1 guy folded and the other called... and then the river came a 2 and i bet this time a small amount just incase he got trips but he raises me but not that much so i called and turn out he had 10 2 a full house!!!!!

i can go on forever but what do u do in these situations?
i mean when i fold crap hands to rasises i wud of end up with the winning hands and when i get a decent hand i lose to crap hands!!!!

i mean is online poker good for bad players or is there something i am doing wrong??????

i think i might end up playing real poker in a casino cause all the strategys ive read dont seem to work online but might do well in real poker face to face! ?

and the bad thing is when i have top pair and the flop has 3 diferent suit i feel a bit happy and bet but i still get callers no matter what i bet and then they get the miracle card on the river and get a flush.... so these players will go all in no matter what and get lucky... so how do u deal with these type of players????

i was so close to breaking my pc as u can imagine how angry i was!!!

so do u guys think i should only play for the nuts and slow play or is there a way round this in online poker???

please i really need ideas thanks

this is gonna happen. i went for a year where i was playing mainly mtt's and sng's with no cg's on ftp and the whole year i played on a $50 deposit and got it as high as 400 with just mtt's and sng's at the low limit on ftp. anyway, the next 6 months were brutal. i lost every hand practically that i had when ahead to some dumb plays and bad timing just like you're describing. all i can tell you is to play through it and try not to tilt off the rest of your money. i was prolly on tilt for like a month. haha. then i sat back and started getting back to the basics, nuts to the wall poker. i played pretty rocky and real aggressive and started showing some more good results. so some was my play and other parts was the run of ccards i was suffering through. just keep your head level and play through the bad run is all i can tell you.

One question, why do you call with 92? I don't care how small the blinds are, why call?

Really! Forget the 9 2 hand. Sometimes crap hands would be the winner at showdown. More often than not, there're still crap hands when all the cards are out. If you regularly play those hands with a raise and a re-raise in front of you, you'll be spewing money. In fact, that's precisely why you raise and re-raise with AK, to fold hands like 9 2 and keep them from catching lucky.

As for the bad beats - you want them to keep calling you with those hands when you're the statistical favorite....over time you come out ahead if you keep getting your money in good. If you get your money in good and you lose that's ok, don't beat yourself up - you played the hand correctly.

Also you need to mention our bankroll and the stakes you're playing.

Remember that poker is a long term game; you'll need look at your results over a longer period of time that just the past few weeks. Variance is an evil mistress! We've all had times when we just can't win- just the same as we've all had nights we just can't lose (although the losing times always seem to last longer than the winning times).

Keep playing good poker and it will all equal out.

(1 outers happen sometimes, but this won't happen very often, also you can't blame him, because set vs set doesn't happen very often, odds of that are very small)

What levels are you playing at?? If you're playing a limit such as NL10 or NL25 and losing that much it sounds like maybe your too eager to get your chips in the middle when you don't have the nuts.

Pothole raises a very valid question, why call with 92os? Unless you are making a very deliberate play with the right circumstances (and that is going to be rare) or checking your option in the BB I can't think of any other reason to call with 92os. Instead of bemoaning a missed flop that very rarely hits, applaud yourself for making a good fold, if not a bit late.

Very unlucky. Unfortunately, that's part of poker. I don't blame you for being upset, I'd be pretty pissed as well, however when you think about it, you want that situation to happen. You want that player in the pot because he's going to lose to you a ton of money.

see the above post, again, you got unlucky. My question here is, at any point did you slow down and consider what they were calling you with? QJ is a reasonable holding of your opponents, as is pocket Tens. So, did you know for a fact you were truly ahead on the turn. Likewise, big bets can be suspicious and if he flopped 2 pair he may think he's good. My point here is, were you just shoving chips or were you considering what you were against and where you stood in the hand (important to do if when trying to avoid losing $300 in a week).

Donks play live poker too, online or a casino don't really matter. If anything, based on my local experience, I think live play is worse than online. Most people won't go to the hassle of driving to a casino, waiting for a table, and buying chips just to sit and play tight poker.

very carefully. trust me, these are the ones you want at the table. They are where your winnings are coming from. If everyone played good poker it'd be hard to make money.

One of the other posters raised a good point about being results oriented. Make sure your analyzing your play to make sure it's correct and don't just focus solely on the results.

thanks guys for ur replys but i have to tell u ive had no luck since, i started playing freerolls and keep folding the winning hands pre flop.

and also i had qj and flop was 10 8 5 and someone went all in i folded and turn and river was k A. down to 480 chips 1 guy left and i raise all in with pocket 3s he calls j9 he got his 9 and im out!!

and i waited quite a long time for the hand as i thought i might need the luck rather than play by the book.

so i think ill give up for a few days lol and try make my own strategy and see if it works. thanks

Personally I stay away from the cash games, maybe you should stick to Sit n Goes. Its allot easier on the bad beats as far as your bank roll is concerned, and typically if your a tight player you will finish in the money more so than a cash game. Its easy to hit a loosing streak on the cash games and the next thing you know...you have lost your bank roll. Not necessarily through bad play but just bad beats. Sit n goes allows you more opportunity to control your losses. Hope this helps.

Stop looking at the cards that come on the board after you fold. You can only make decisions based on the available information.

You are too results orientated instead of process orientated.

If you keep chasing hoping the cards you need will come, you will lose your money faster. You may get lucky a few times, but eventually it will catch up to you.

I'm going to assume that you are not too familiar with the game yet based on your post. I would suggest getting more comfortable by playing with play money for a while. Some would argue that the game is a totally different experience, but I would say it's invaluable to build up experience while not losing anything.

I played with play money for over a year before I felt comfortable depositing, and I've been doing consistently well in real money. I know I was a complete donk when I started playing with play money (as in, I was arguing with myself over whether J10 or A10 was better because of straight possibilities) so it just shows that ANY experience is good. And to be honest, play money is not that different from the lowest stakes games.

On something specific to your problem: you are married to much to your preflop hands. The key to winning in hold'em is postflop play. Don't call when you know you're beat or bet when you're behind just because you feel like your hand deserves it.

Also, a key thing that I noted while I played was that it is sometimes hard to let go of good hands. Say that you have A Q but the flop comes out Q 3 3. Although you have a good hand, you can be certain that someone in the table hit trips or a queen, in which case you need a lot of luck to win the overall hand. I lost quite a bit of money due to my 2 card play, that is only looking at the strength of my hole cards.
