JJ ???? Ok just want to know if you think i made the right descion. Recently in a 2.20 10 person sng, with the blinds 100/200 i get JJ on the button short stacked with 5 people left.top 3 get paid. I decide to push with it and get two callers,A/9 and A/10. Needless to say the ace hits and i am gone. But do you think i played the short stack in late pos right.

That's clearly the right move. You can't possibly sit and wait for a better hand than JJ. Keep in mind, JJ is a better all in hand than AK, AQ, etc. The fact is, they hit a 2-outter on you and you got unlucky. I don't really get why whoever the 2nd caller was made the call. I don't really think they could believe their A9/A10 had 2 people beat, but I guess that's online poker for you. To answer your original question though, you made the right play.

Yes, you did the right thing. You don't have a lot of wiggle room left when you're the short stack. You're going to have to make a move at some point. I would have been pretty happy to see two players both with an ace turn over their cards. Unfortunately you took the hit.

re: JJ ???? poker Similar thing recently happened to me. I had two callers, one mucked on the turn and the other had K9o. K came on the river and I was out. It was late in the tourney and I was short stacked. I would do it again. You made the right move.

It really depends on the play at the table. If the people in the hand have been raising regularly with Q's K's and A's and you were the one that pushed the action, you are probably safe. A 1/2 pot bet will probably make them fold. If there was a raise before your action be careful you know there is a good chance they may have hit one of the over cards. If you are first to act throw out a feeler bet.

I have to agree with most that because of your short stack you could not afford to wait for a better hand. . .you basically would have had to wait so long to get a better hand than you J's that you would have been eaten up by the blinds.

re: JJ ???? poker Well, wait!!! Christ... 100/200.. how shortstacked were you? What were the effective stacks? Were they loose (yes)? A SNG has one objective: Make the top three. We're you the shortest stack? You have equity in this tournament at this point ... and you must consider that with 300 in the pot ... 9 players/10 players at what 1500 starting stack is 13,500 or 15,000, so the average is 2500-3000 with 5 players. If you had 1000-1500... then the push is fine. Anything less than 1000... you're gonna get called. Not enough information.. this is just an unlucky hand disguised as a strategy post.

On the button Yeah this is definitely the right move. Especially if you had less than 1500 chips. I said 1000 earlier but I lied. I am rwally just trying to make a point that you can hang on to your chips alot longer than most players think and survive to make the money by letting go of certain hands in certain positions and waiting for the right time to get your money in good. Patience!!!!

re: JJ ???? poker you could have limped in, they might have had say 10 - 6 off and flopped a straight, that would of upset you more, right? make the play agian the odds are with you, just not this time.

I would have done the same but everyone knows that any ace is going to call in that type of situation. My experience has been any ace will call any pocket pair allin. You just have to hope for the best. If I am going to go out it is going to be with high pockets rather than med or lo pockets gl

I just ran 2 black jacks against AK hearts in a calculator, and JJ holds up 53% of the time. Then I ran black 33 against AK hearts, and 33 was still a slight fav. AK may have a great positive expectation, against a random playable hand, but I think much of that is because you have a pretty good chance of running into a smaller ace instead of a pair. Against pairs higher than 22, and lower than KK, you are never a huge dog--but also never the favorite. Quote:

You definitly played this hand right, but you know how fulltilt is: the weaker your hand the better your chances to win.^^ In early position I would have folded JJ, due to it's to risky and when you're short stacked more people could call. gl next time with this hand^^
