Invalid Raise - NL hold'em Just wanted some clarification on the betting rules for NL hold'em...I was of the opionion that in a NL game if there is an invalid raise then players who already acted in the hand do not get an option to raise... but while playing a game on party...there was a player who actually got the option to raise...although there was an invalid raise prior to that.... wld appreciate any help on this... Thanks in advance guys...

There are occasional glitches that arise during card play on internet sites. The most common ones are usually related to folding vs. calling/betting. Like you pre-click on "Call" and your hand is folded instead. Hate that. Or, I've heard of rare occasions when an inferior hand was awarded the pot. But these are usually isolated incidents. You certainly see them more on fledgling sites with questionable software than on big, established sites like PokerStars, UltimateBet, or Full Tilt. But they CAN happen anywhere, anytime. I echo Heshkak's query. What specifically happened that constituted an "invalid raise"? Not sure I've actually seen one of those myself.

I had one myself on Pacific and I couldn't figure out why. It gave me the option to call or raise and when I choose raise it said invalid raise and folded my premium hand. If I wasn't allowed to raise why did it give me the option.? It was a freeroll so I didn't inquire further. I seen the same thing happen there to someone else and he didn't know what was going on either. In nine months those are the only times I have seen it.

re: Invalid Raise - NL hold'em poker Invalid raise could really only be one of two things. Either someone bet the wrong amount (e.g. previous bet was $300, next guy tried to raise to $500 even though he had enough chips to make the complete raise), OR someone made a raise that put them all in for less than the full required raise amount. Since this happened online, my quess would be the latter. Then the question is, how much less than the full raise amount. If I have less than $300 left but want to rasie all in for less than a $300 raise... then if I have between $150 and $299, I have made a sufficient enough size bet that the betting is reopened (pending any caps in limit) and callers have the option to raise further (again pending any caps in limit). But if I have between $1 and $149, then I have not made a sufficient enough size bet to reopen betting. Anyone wishing to play behind me can only call my partial raise. Just my two cents. I don't know the circumstances for PokerJoker's post.
