How to play KJo?
KJ(offuist i suppose) is a hand im not sure i play very well. i'm a winning player but i've never felt confident about playing this hand. I'm talking about a ring game of 8-10 players
do u raise it if ur under the gun, flat call, or fold? do u call if someone has raised behind you? in front of you? how do u play it if you're in the blinds? obviously there is a differnet way to play it depending on your situation, but i was just wondering if anybody has any insight on how to play the hand? |

KJ offsuit in a ring game is a decent hand in late position. But I don't think it can stand much pressure preflop. Early position I might raise with it to get players out.
Shorthanded it is a much better hand. I think I would rather flop the jack than the king. |

I would imagine in FR then your very rarely opening up utg with this hand unless your extremely LAG. I would say most TAG players will open raise co/button, but thats about it. In the BB this may be a 3-bet hand to an overly aggro button raiser. But I'm sure other FR members will be able to comment re this.
Im mainly a 6max player so generally speaking open raising from co/button/sb, is common place with this hand imo. I wouldn't play this utg in 6max. I'm hardly ever calling with this hand in 6max, so I would imagine that would be the same in FR. |

I play 6-max as well. Even then I'll fold it UTG unless I the table's been allowing people to limp, in which case I'd limp. Ditto in the next position.
In the cut off or button I'd raise an unraised pot, and either call or fold depending on who made the raise in a raised pot. In a 9 player ring game I'd be even tighter. The important thing is position. K/J is not that good of a hand so you need to rely on other people's actions to tell you how you stand with it. |

My default play with this hand is to fold.
It's a nasty hand to play as short of flopping a straight/draw you never really know where you stand. You're not losing much value by folding and potentially avoiding difficult and expensive post-flop situations. |

full ring game for me:
early: fold unless very passive table and I think I can see for cheap. You are going to be out of position and you have to worry about KQ limpers. middle: call most of the time. Riase if passive table and you might pick up blinds. Fold if you have aggressive players between you and the button. late: I will raise on the button here. KJ is well above any two random cards the blinds might have but fold to any reraise. that is my quick normal play. The problem is tables can vary so much by how aggressive or passive they are as far as preflop raising. Aggressive tables I get out of the way more with this hand and with passive tables I raise with it more. |

Actually it's funny, my friend and i nicknamed KJo the "Justin Dailey" because we have this friend (you can guess his name) that busted out of just about 50% of his SnGs with that exact hand. It's terribly overrated and until you are down to 3 or even heads up, unless you have terrific position and can steal blinds with it, it's a worthless vacuum of a hand.
