How much would you raise here? 2/5 full ring. No limpers, late position. I am stuck between raising .20 or .25. Maybe .25 in very late position and .20 in earlier positions? I don't see many callers of .30 or more on full tilt.

3x or 4x is standard. Don't vary your raise size preflop unless you have limpers in front of you. then add one x. You will start to form habits which can turn into tells if you raise 4x sometimes and 5x other times. Also, think about your raises, if your standard raise is 5x you are going to have a lot tighter range calling you. Meaning the only ones calling your high 5x raise are going to be those that are ahead of you preflop. Stick to the 3 to 4x.

I mean for this specific limit what do other grinders find is the best min. raise amount. For example, when playing 1/2 on most sites a standard and often called raise is 6-8x. 2/5 isn't far off. I guess I'll just stick with .20 for 2/5. But isn't it generally true that I should raise more in late position?

Only vary your raise size if there are limpers in front of you, usually in late position there are limpers in front of you. It's doesn't matter what the average is for the limit. 3x is always standard. Sometimes 4x is standard on a table. Just depends what the table you are sitting at is doing. |

I would follow the advice about raising given here if you don't know much about the table. However, if you can expect to be called by 2 or more people with a 3x raise from early position I would start increasing my raises consistently until you reduce the action you face to 1 or 2 callers. Last thing I want is to be out of position with a hand like AA or KK against 3 or more opponents.

I'd suggest doing the Ferguson Pre-flop Academy challenge. The concept there is to use standard raises for the playable hands in each position, with a varying bet depending on position only (not the cards). Play the challenge several times. (To get through it, you have to make a ton of raise-or-fold plays -- which is also a huge thing to train yourself to do.) Now, I don't love raising AA 2xBB in early position as required-- but what often happened was that another player would reraise you, and you can then make sure it gets heads up. It's a good challenge to systematically play preflop in a way that hides the strength of your hands, and see how that affects both your results and the response of the other players.
