| How much would you lose in this hand I'm in the SB in a live 1/2 NL game at my local casino and look down at AKc. I had a stack of about 400 in front of me at the time. There were two middle position limpers and it's back around to me, I raise to 18 bucks. The first limper folds and the second calls. Flop comes 3A8...rainbow. I bet out 25 bucks and the guy just doubles my bet and makes it 50. I was somewhat stunned but basically had to call the bet, which I did. The turn is another 3, I check to the bettor and he bets the same 50, I almost fold but something made me call. I knew I was beating AQ, AJ and in a tie with AK. But my gut put him on a set of 8's. River comes a 6, no flush is possible. The actions on me, I was pissed and instead of checking to him I put him all in, he snapped called and turns over A3 for the boat. It's hard for me to believe his loose preflop call of my raise with AKc, he's dominated drawing to three outs. I should've folded at the turn though, I really had him on a set of 8's, certainly not A3. Hard hand to get away from, oh and he had just sat down so I had zero history on him. I just a funny feeling he had a weaker A too, how much would some of you guys lost on that hand. I doubled him up. |

| Maybe it's all the online play but min raises put me on high alert. Right then is when you ask yourself has the player been playing well or are they a donkey. The answer to that question is the answer to should you fold right there or check call them down. Don't overplay AK. |

| From my visits to casinos and card rooms i have learned most people playing cards think they should call anybet with an ace. now there are people that play well but i think most are playing with the same mindset as blackjack or something. sorry about the bad beat man but i try to play really really tight at casinos and if i get re raised im usually like ok wtf. dont worry these guys are the ones that will pay you off huge in the future. |

First thing I noticed was that your initial raise was a bit high. 9BB raise with two limpers? I would say a 5BB would be more adequate against an unknown. If you knew that they were loose passive, then a bit bigger raise of say 7BB would be fine because you have a strong hand. Second...if you put him on a set of 8's then why were you still calling and raising? He wasn't going to fold on that flop when his set hit, he wasn't going to fold on the turn when he hit the boat, and he wasn't going to fold on the river with the boat(Zeebo's Theorum). You had a good hand here and I'm not necessarily saying that you were wrong with all of the plays, but you saying you put him on the set makes no sense with how you played the hand afterward. The min raise would put me on high alert as well because many weaker players use this as a value bet. |

Did you mean AFTER his minraise? Because that a little less crazy, but still cookoo. I think you might reraise him there, though just calling kinda narrows our range down to something like QQ+ AK and I don't think you can expect to call him down all the way if he is anything more than a complete fool, which we don't know yet. In that light, the shove is the sort of thing I've regrertted doing before, because what is he calling us with there that we beat? |

| The fact that he just limped and called your huge bet pre-flop was a bit suspicious too, a strange movie in a 1/2 with an AQ or a AJ and with 3 players even strange with a pair of 8 s, however having no history about him forced you only to rely on your instinct |
