How do you beat the AK lovers??

Hey guys,
I play online on the 0.01/0.02 $5max full ring tables on bluesq, in my local casino i play on the 2/2 200euro max tables but as i am trying to build a decent online bankroll (currently at $57) i play on the lower tables, the biggest difference i've noticed online is that when someone gets AK, suited or off suit, they seem to cream in their pants and think they're holding the nuts whatever the flop comes.

I recently found myself on the 0.01/0.02 table, the big stack on the table and with JJ on the button there were five limpers so i put in a decent raise of 20c, the blinds fold, UTG calls and everyone else folds, so with the pot at 0.53 the flop comes 2c 7d 6h, UTG checked it to me and I put in a 40c raise, he calls and the turn was a 9s, with the pot at 1.33 he pushes all in with 1.60, I called thinking that I was still ahead because I didn't think the 9 would have helped him and rightly put him on 2 overcards with him trying to steal the pot (he'd done this before and showed A rag and J Q), I called and he turns over AK off, hits his ace on the river and then says i was stupid for making the call!!!!

How the hell do you beat idiots like this (unless of course you think i was the idiot here, i'm open to constructive crit), he calls the raise pre-flop which i probably would've done myself but then he called my bet on the flop with nothing and then pushes all in out of position holding ace high against a pre-flop raiser to act after him!! It's so irritating because after an hour of play and grinding myself to $2 up I end up down for the session! You don't get this kind of play on the tables in the casino so i haven't a scoobies how to play against it

you want him to play the way he did. If every time you had JJ and someone had AK and you got the scenario you described, you'd win a lot in the long run. Also, at .01/.02 you're not gonna make most people fold anything (which is actually why you can kill these games if you just play tight).

His mistake then really was calling 40 cent post flop, is that what you are saying? After that, he put you all-in, it's up to you whether you call or not, but if you fold a pair of 5's for example then he's pushed you off a bigger hand (and has outs if you call).

Problem that i've got with the analysis is the amounts involved. 20c may be a 10xBB raise, but in the real world it's still only 10p. Likewise 40 cents is only 20p. People are going to call bets like that, which means you are going to win at a higher rate than at higher levels, but suffer more bad beats.

Does it?? I'm not saying "this is the worst beat i've had, poker sucks, donks suck, i'm never playing again" I'm asking how you beat people who play like that and using a played hand as an example, or asking the 'strategy' for beating these people, surely that belongs in a poker strategy forum???

And yes I do realise that 30 or 40c isn't a hell of a lot of money but why dont these people understand that they'll never progress as a poker player if they insist on playing like idiots??

You got all your money in with the best hand. You lost. Are you serious when you're asking if getting your money in with the best hand is good or not?

If so, you should have a look at the strategy section (one of the tabs up to the right) and read the articles on expected value, and a few others. Browse around.

Otherwise, I fail to see how this is any different from a bad beat post.

I assume u mean after the flop and turn and not preflop

Wrong!!! I know it is not probable, but he could have had pocket 2`s, 6`s, 7`s, 9`s , Q`s, K`s, A`s. There is a potential straight (not probable) he could have had 8`s. Also, he pushed all in hoping he could push u off your hand - as it turned out, he still had about a 14% chance of catching.

My point is, you could have been calling dead or to one of the 2 remaining J`s.

If I can be brutal and hope you take this the right way. If he had been ahead, u had pushed and caught your J and won - he would have moaned

If he had not caught the Ace, u would have taken down the pot.

I found that you have to get used to the swings in poker, thats all.

Also, put yourself in the other guys position, there is a possibility (without looking too much into how much invested in pot) I would have folded thinking he had made a bad call preflop with say 10 8. (possibly)

At the end of it all, the other guy called u down and caught - u played it well, he did not. I have found that in poker, you can control how you play but u can`t control the way the dealer deals.

So, to sum it all up, there is no way to beat the AK lovers as you state - I just hope I come up against the guy that u came up against
