How to counter a bluff on line

Hi guys.

Does anyone have any advice on how to counter a bluff on line?

What I`m looking at is early stages, both sitting with about 1500 chips. U catch AKo and u raise, say, 5 times bb. The loose player calls. Flop 2,7,9 rainbow. U check knowing the other guy will raise regardless. U know he is bluffing, what do u do? He raises 2 times pot size (400 chips)

In the past I have gone all in. Sometimes winning, sometimes losing. I rarley call. What do u guys think?

What I have noticed is when I start a new thread by typing down my question I think I always come up with the answer !!!

I`ll leave this run and see what the good players think?

Live by the sword, die by the sword?

I hate people that play EVERY hand and raise with rags. I believe AK isn't a very good hand when playing someone with that kind of strategy. You can take a stab with the AK or wait for a high pair....? Or don't raise at all...probably a better idea would be to try and blind side people like this. I'm also curious to what others have to say. You'll find this info usefulvespecially when you're shortstacked late in a tournament.

I let them take pots like this early in a tournament. There are alot and I mean alot of hands that are ahead of you. Any pair (2s, 7s, and 9s have you drawing basically dead), and 2x 7x 9x all have you beat at this point.

Why fight with a good starting hand that did not hit? AK is good when you hit but for god sakes don't marry it after the flop misses. You will have lots of time to get better situations to put all your money in the pot. You just have to say "nice bet" and move on.

If you want to keep playing I would just call and see another card for the 400. It will be easier to let it go if you don't catch on the turn and he may check also after your call. You will leave yourself with about 1k in chips which is more than enough to try and make a comeback if he bets it out on the turn. You are not making yourself shortstacked yet and not pot committed to see it through and can let it go easier.

I hate it when that happens.

First, if I KNOW he's bluffing, then I ALWAYS reraise. But, alas, the problem is that we can not KNOW that he is bluffing...we can only make an educated guess. If you really feel it is more than likely that he is bluffing, reraise. If he calls your RR, then assume your read is wrong. Or you could call him to the river with your A-high...hoping that you can afford it if he hits and you don't.

But I am with Titans4ever on this one...let it go. I don't KNOW if he is bluffing and since he is probably the kinda idiot that would call my raise with 97s, I'm not gonna assume he's got nothing. I wait until I have a hand I can play like an overpair in this situation. Make him regret his too frequent bluffs. Remember Coryan's Fourth Rule of Poker...."Even an idiot can get a hand". You just wait until you actually have something you can bet on.

So, in your scenario, if I know he is gonna raise me on the flop, I'm not gonna bet it...and then I will fold to his bet (unless it's tiny) since I hit nothing. Don't bluff back....he ain't gonna fold. You take these guys out when you make a hand and they continue to play the idiot game.
