How to build my bankroll on pokerstars?

I deposited $25 on pokerstars yesterday, and I have been doing well since then. I just finished playing in a 180 players SNG($2.20 buy-in) and took 7th place. Also played a couple $0.05/$0.10 NL Holdem ring game tables. My bankroll on pokerstars is currently at $38.66. I want to build this up to $10,000. Which is the best method for me to do this? What limits should I be playing?

Wow $25 to 10k you are shooting high thats for sure. If u are a good heads up player personally i like the $5 heads up or the $2 heads up. Also the 180 person $4.40 is a good payout on Pokerstars as well as the $2.20 180 person. They pay good if you win but what you have to do is just grind it out. Dont try to play out of your limits and try to win 1k at a time. A fewbucks here and a few bucks there next thing you know u will be at a $100. I wouldnt play any higher than $4 though with that $38 bankroll. Good Luck To YA!!!!

I won $1500 from $0 at Full Tilt Poker in the past(even though I admit I was very lucky). Anyways I want to set my goals higher now. Thanks for the tips.

bankroll management is the only way. with 38 bucks you should only be using 5% of your bankroll so that means roughly 2 bucks per tourney. Also if you are going to do the heads up Id rather wait since the 2.20 heads up tourneys cost to much in rake and you will be really losing to the rake more then anything. Id play the 2.20 180 man if your good at them and wait till I have over 100 then I'd move into the $5 heads up if your good at them and continue with that till your at 220 and move up to the $11 heads up and continue moving up only using 5% of your bankroll at a time per tourney. eventually when you get to higher stakes you would want to be using less of your bankroll per tourney since its going to get harder.

I would say keep ur goal to 100$ first, then 500$, then 1k$ and then 5k and than finally to ur goal of 10K...

This way u wont be in a hurry and dat will help from committing big mistakes.Believe me...
I too have set my goal as 100K ${DONT LAUGH, AND AM NOT MAD. LOL}.
i have not deposited anything and now in 5 months time i managed to get above 1k$. This i achieved by setting my goals in several steps and not directly to 100K$...

Why do you automatically assume that I'm in a hurry to reach my goal? I'm willing to take as long as it takes to get to $10000. Thanks for the tip on setting your goals in several steps though.

2 months ago i have 20 dollars, farm it from nothing, started playing full ring 1c/2c like 10 tables at a time, first month i did 80 dollars, second (december) 150 already. for january i want to make 300 dollars. so you could try that.

I was just trying to help u by warning u against the most common mistake most ppl do when they set high and long goals mate.They start good initially, but somewhere on the road they get a bit greedy which sets them back drastically. Just didnt want u to do that mistake .Thats all mate.And GL !!

Unfortunatly my bankroll is gone. But I will get another one soon. I kind of donked out after a bad beat. I will try and play better and tighter next time.

That was fast. Next time, really do use BRM. Well, at least you went from only $38 to $0. Could have been worse.

It's really hard to build a BR, let alone a big one. It is very easy to lose one. This is what everyone was trying to tell you.

Definitely don't play HU unless you're some HU specialist. HU has WAY too much variety to be worth it for pretty much everybody. (I know there are some people who are really good at it, but anyways..) Definitely keep to BRM, and if you start to go on tilt. GO DO SOMETHING ELSE!

Also, if you want to get good at something specifically, i.e. cash games or tournaments, put your time into what you want to do. Don't play around in both, if you really want to get good, work on one for awhile, and eventually if you want transition over to the other. I.E. I've been noticing I tend to do fairly well in both tournaments and SNGs, but not so much in cash games. It's probably because I'm way too aggressive in cash games....

has anyone ever skyrocketed their initial small bankroll with a final table finish in a tourney? ie 9000 entries with $2 buy-in

I was playing at the $.05/$.10 cent tables and bought in with $10 . Went all in with pocket aces preflop, got a call and the other player and me covered for my $10. He had pocket Js and caught a jack on the turn to steal the pot(figures). Kind of pissed me off, so I went to a heads up table $10 buy-in and lost that. Just bad luck, but it was partially my fault for playing to high of stakes for my bankroll. I'm trying to get a bankroll on Full Tilt today from a few freerolls.

def, BRM needs to be in the equation next deposit.... playing 20BI rule 40$ for 2nl is the bare min. prob go FR due to a little less variance, so even if u experience a losing streak off the bat, its not gonna hit as hard.

My partner plays on FTP, and shes like u and had 80$ in her account and decided to 8 table FR 10nl for min BI and i lectured her lectured her lectured her, but she shrugged it off as most women do, and built it up to $120, then thought she was phil ivey and started the 25nl tables, and lost it all down to about 30 something dollars. which i thought good maybe its sunk in, but then this morning obviously it hasn't and she built that up to $130 playing 25nl FR again, sooo nothing sunk in again and she thinks once again shes phil ivey LMAO... oo well

lol well said. But I don't always think like that. Sometimes and cant help it, I get greedy because I want to make money faster. But I do try and manage my bankroll, but sometimes my greediness gets in my way.

That sometimes will wipe out your bankroll again and again until you stop it.

If you're just playing for fun, play as high as you want but expect to lose your deposit repeatedly.

If you want to make some money out of this, like your 10k goal, then you've got to understand that one of the biggest BR killers is poor BRM. You'll notice that most threads people start about going bust tend to start with "I was playing above my limit" or "I went on tilt", this stuff happens because we're all human and sometimes we let out impatience, arrogance or frustration get the better of us, but it will wipe out your roll.
If you play above your limit once you'll probably be fine (assuming you're actually good enough to be in that game), in fact, you'll probably make money. The problem is that your risk of ruin goes way up along with it, there is a lot of variance in poker (even if you've got a huge edge in your game) and this will catch up with you.

Play above your BR for long enough and you'll lose it, how long depends on how far above your BR you are. For long term success, the kind that you need to get to 10k, you need to stay within at least 20 max buy ins (probably more). It's not something that's negotiable, it's just solid math.

If you are going to take risks with your BR, then I would recommend playing a relatively "safe" game like the Double or Nothings. You should be able to cash in 50% of these with relative ease, and using a "double or nothing" strategy like playing a $1 and if you double you repeat. If you lose then you move up to $5, etc, etc. $40 would give you a 3 loss cushion to start with. Do I advocate playing this method on such a short BR? No, but you seem to be apt to taking risks with your BR, at least play a safe and beatable game in the process so your risk of going broke is reduced.

I hate double or nothings. You can only win 90 cents on a $1.10 buyin(hate losing rake) and it will take forever to build a bankroll from those SNGs. Now if they had bigger buy-ins for double or nothings. That would be a different story.

You lose rake on EVERYTHING. So that's a lame excuse. They have 1.10, 5.20, 10.40, 20.80, 51.60, 102. Pick one and run a system. I agree that unless you are patient enough to grind it out at the micros for small profit each attempt, then you are going to have to gamble it up. It doesn't seem like you are interested in BRM or small gains. So have fun gambling.

It wasn't just 'bad luck'.... even the very best poker players will be losing players if they don't practise some kind of BRM. Playing at 10NL with 1/3>1/4 of your bankroll is way too high of limits to be playing.
If you say you're "not in a hurry".... then why are you playing at 10NL with less than 4buyins? Recipe for goin' busto but thanks for posting to remind others that this is what happens... just a matter of time (I've watched friends yo-yo their online accounts many, many times... up $50-$700... then down to nothing... back up... then busto again... & again).

Personally I've always set my goals for working at getting to be a better player & the money/BR has always just taken care of itself (I've never had any monetary goals with poker). I do have goals as to what limits & buyins I'd like to be playing & how I will attempt to get there but never a specific monetary amount. I get tilted easily enough w/o that on my mind.

How? Easily >> I've seen a bunch of micro players grind out 10cent & 30cent sng's online, gradually building up to being able to move up in limits. Whether it's $25 or $250... it's all relative.

I'm actually trying to grind up some money on pokerstars right now. I got $15 and am currently playing the 25cent SNGs.

$10k from DoNs is easily within the realm of possibility (though mass multi tabling is necessary).

Play low risk games and use bankroll management? I grinded $10 -> $1000+ in 2 weeks with very little risk of ruin.

In terms of bankroll management, you will get unlucky, but luck is a factor. It is however, not the only factor. You have to measure your luck with odds and much smaller buy ins than you used. If you play with less emotion and smaller buy ins, you should be more successful.

2. Don't play if you are placing your bankroll in jeopardy or feeling scared

There should be a restrict table limits option. I haven't really used it but that should help keep you away from higher limits. I just started playing again after a few months off after losing $100 to a guy heads-up. He sucked out a lot on me.
