Excellent read, I go on tilt easily and now you have given out advice that makes sense. I will use it immediately and maybe that long awaited final table will be mine.

Thanks - good reminder

I was just complaining about losing the other night with a pair of Aces, and an A on the flop. My opponent won with a straight flush. Ouch. And yes, I was on TILT after that - and lost badly because of some very aggressive betting by me afterwards. All on bad hands. Thanks!

I have hard time not tilting sometimes. It always seems to be focused on the bully of the table.

I have a problem with patience I try to wait for good opening hands but when having a cold streak I have a tendency to play marginal hands and lose. never been a patience man.

Its bad when you get gutted on a hand and the very next hand out of box is AA or AK. How come I didn't wait is all I can think and All-In I am.

Everyone who plays cards has been consumed by tilt at one point or another during their playing days. But how many of you have allowed tilt to eat your whole bank roll? I've lost all my money numerous times because the anger and frustration sets in and I just can't get myself out of my chair. I just keep playing and playing expecting to win it back and I make dumb moves. Sound familiar to anyone? I know you're just supposed to walk away for awhile and cool off but I can't pull myself away from the game. Any useful tips on how to not fall victim to tilt and its terrible consequences?

I liked the post and agree with a lot of what was said. For me I have found that a short break does wonders and if the chat has anything to do with what is getting to me I just block it immediately instead of getting involved. After all I there to win money not an argument.

These are the ten commandments of poker.

Great Post, needs to be stickied if it already hasn't. This is one area that I can consider myself a pro at. I used to tilt 'like a madman.' I would lose like $5 at .05/.1 blind hands and then move up to .1/.25 to try and recoup. So not only was I playing on tilt, but i was playing on tilt at a level my bankroll couldn't support. I had literally done this 3 or 4 times and wiped out my bankroll. My biggest killer was tilt, but I feel like I have gotten it under control now. Mainly because I have been doing some of the things that you mention. I feel like i have to say it again, Excellent post

Great Stuff..too long..I couldn't read it all though.

I Can't avoid tilt always..BUT>>>

I can minimize the TILT..

BUT STAY OFF BY:

only playing: PAIRS,AK,AQ..and SUITED CONNECTORS...
so by doing this. you'll be making alot of folds, and time alone will set me free from TILTING.

This is a great post. Tilting in Hold em is sometimes unavoidable. I will take a break from ring games, but once you lose that big stack in a tourney it's hard to remain focussed.

emotions

theseare a big part of the game...u have to control your emotions to be a good player.....there are times u can use tilt to your advantage...i have seen players goo all in after losing a big pot and then everyone fold and they continue to do it for the next three hands and someone call and they call when the tilting player has AK and lose .....so beware of the tilter...sometimes it is better to let them fume and get the pots and then once they cool off then the table can play real poker again.

Very nice read, this article described my emotions perfectly when I go on tilt. However, I find the best solution to stop going on tilt is to stop playing for a couple of days, especially after a big loss. At the same time, my poker technique gets a break and I find that my game actually improves after coming back, hopefully enough to get back the winnings that I lost.

Drink in moderation or don't drink at all if your playing. Playing poker is similar to driving a car...its about having good decision making skills. Nothing wrong with having a sociable or two at home while playing but if you start feeling it (and have the common sense to realize it)...stop playing right then and there. Think about how many mistakes we've all made when we're drinking..(ie...sleeping with the wrong woman, waking up in a different town)...poker isn't much different except you stand to lose alot of money if your drinking encourages tilt behavior a bit more.

on tilt

try not to going allin after a bad bet just wait and forget the bad beat u just have cause your going to lose the game that u want to win so just play smart and let the player that play's like a donkie to get there bad beat....so don't play like them cause they don't get for

The best advice i was ever given: "Play your best game all the time." It's really a lot harder than it sounds. Hah

This is great advice. I try to do just that. (Sit out-Walk away.) But there's another side to this. When your opponent just lost a big one, many times the next hand will be all in and you can take advantage of this. Just don't think your 7-2 off will beat him just because he's on tilt.

Analyze your hand history and see what mistakes u made to get into the situation. Your bad beats often come when ur short stacked and someone with a worse hand has odds to call.

put 'em on tilt

When you know you have an emotional player at your table, put him on tilt with a donk move, like a bluff, or playing bad cards and hitting. He'll start watching you and lose focus, then you go in for the kill.

Yeah definitely. Simply put, just relax and play your best game all the time. It really sounds easy, but it's not.

Very interesting information, even though i knew all of it already . Its nice to read all of that and get it clearly in my head again. Just ricently i lost with pocket aces against pocket 2s against a friend of mine... mann it was a bad beat, but i lost all my money right there so i didnt have anymore to lose to him being on tilt . I believe in due time ill get to the stage where tilt wont really affect me. GL at the tables everyone

I word and all your Tilt problems will go out the window..and you wont care if your 4 Aces got spanked by a royal flush at the main event

I go on tilt to often. haha. I've built my bankroll from $25 to $1300 before, and in a mear hour my bankroll was at $0. Then I shut my laptop lid. Lay in bed and think... I figure that if I would have just quit with $10 left I would be in legit shape to build it back up.. but no, now I have to wait til payday to deposit again.. So i sit in my room bored.. You'd think I'd learn. but i dont. hopefully this post helps. lmao.

i think the best advice is to just breathe-sit out close your eyes and as hard as it may seem u need to refocus-remember that in the long run skill overcomes the luck factor-if this does not help i suggest just quitting for the day no use in losing all your money going on tilt-the_urge27

WOW! This is the first thread I found that I can say I truly enjoyed reading. I even saved it for later viewing and sharing with friends; one in particular that I am constantly telling to calm down. They take every loss personally and always becomes so defensive saying things like "I am coming after you for that one".
I am always saying "charge it to the game" we all are going to get bluffed from time to time, we all have lost hands that we know we should have won, we all have folded to find the last 2 cards belonged to us...SO WHAT...get over it and stay focused don't let no one remove your joy of the game.

Thanks for such a thought out and knowledgeable posting....we need more players like you to teach us and to remind us of all the "tricks of the trade" good luck at the tables.

You will never avoid going on tilt its going to happen you juz have to learn to deal with it the best way possible. Some people fake going on tilt and use it to their advantage.
