The power of AA or KK comes when everybody folds except 1 or 2 pre-flop, cause maybe you went all-in or bet enough to chase everyone else out. But even then, there's no gaurantee. I busted out of two tournaments in a row going all-in on AA. Once to someone with 4c4h and four hearts hit the board, and another time to someone with KcKd and four clubs hit the board. Two days in a row I lost to a four card suited board, when I had AA. What did Hellmuth say: "If it wasn't for luck I'd win every hand." Well I'm no Hellmuth but you can certainly appreciate what he means about how luck can bite you any day, any time. Plus, it works both ways. I won an all-in with 77 against KK just the other day, when the third 7 hit on the river. Luck? Well yes, but I still think I made a smart play under the conditions I was in. My chip stack was getting too low, and I decided I would push in with any pair over 66s because I knew almost everyone would fold, if not everyone. It was a gamble worth taking, so I don't think it really qualified as a bad beat for the other guy. Once you accept the fact that you can lose with those cards, you stop getting excited when you do. |

NICE read ! and the feed back was great ,theirs been plenty of times ive SLAMED my keyboard down..Ya know, constant over value betting still seems to draw me in,at times. Then when i've messed my stack up and down to 300 chips,i still try to save the game, but i'll allso will punch AJ or A-10, and sometimes triple my stack, but theirs that cycle what happin to me, is now happining to other those "TINY TILTS" THAT JUST SMACKED ME IN THE FACE WHEN I HEARD THAT,kinda open a window... great read

A lot of the information on "tilting" focuses on the fact that a bead beat is what often sets it off. I try not to ognore the flip side. When I see someone take a particularly egregious beating - their AA gets a lot of chips in by a guy holding 2h-6d. The flop is then Ah-10s-7c giving him a set only to lose when the turn and river are both hearts giving the donk ends up with a flush. I am more likely to call or raise a big bet from our potentially tilting player the next hand because of the expectation that he is going on tilt. Doesn't aleways work but I've made a significant profit on this move over time.

I dont find I go on tilt to often anymore but I do find myself sometimes frustrated when someone who had next to no chance of winning hits a miricle river eg. A10 vs AK flop hits A 3 3 rainbow and the A10 hits a 10 on river to beat you. Someone wins and someone looses thats poker the hands where you are ahead about 90% tends to get to me somewhat.

Just to bump this because everyone who has read it likes it and those who haven't read it can read it now... and yes again it is from Roy Rounder and the fact that I read this in an e-mail when I 1st started to learn the game of hold-em.

I really liked this. I find that sometimes after a bad beat I just have to quit for a little while because no matter how hard you try to ignore what just happened it still affects your play some. You just have to try to take the good with the bad!

lol In all seriousness, there are many other ways to return back to your normal game. For example; gratifying yourself, getting gratified by someone else, getting gratified by someone else and not having to pay for it. |

I've had problems on and off with tilt. It usually isn't one bad beat, it's 3 or 4 in a row that start to get me going.
I have noticed that my frustration levels decrease the less stress there is in my life. I've recently decided to stop holding in frustration in my personal life, and my tolerance for bad beats has increased at the same time. One way to avoid tilt may be not to shy away from confrontation, and try to be caring, yet assertive in your interaction with people. It takes some work to not get angry or retaliate towards people, but it's worth it. And then when you're in a situation where there isn't anyone to get back at (like a bad beat) you don't feel the urge to be destructive. It's working for me. I just think that these problems are deeper than they appear on the surface. I doubt that anybody thinks that going on tilt will help them, it's just a reaction. Which makes comments like,"Just realize it's part of the game," etc, help people very little. |

Excellent Advise
The problem with this advise is that it is easy to agree to but hard to follow. When you are playing hours and hours doing the right things only to have one hand take that away, it is hard not to go on tilt.
I enjoyed reading the article and will do my best to follow the advice. The first time I had played real money I won a lot but then hit some bad luck. I was impatient and soon began to lose all my money away. This game is all about patience. I plan to try again and will heed this advice each time I play. One thing I do is switch up playing between a cash game and a tourney. If I'm ahead or behind in the cash game, I try to find a point where I play a tourney just to leave ahead or don't go on tilt and loose even more. So far, it's working! Tourney_Joe |

when i know im going to be playing online all day like on a saturday or sunday. i usually pop a xanax or two and that usually takes care of my tilt or over aggresiveness, it actually in a sense makes me play better because i can relax and take my time, which is very important when playing texas hold em

Fulltilt is great for suckouts. When I go on tilt I like to go to a play money table and vent there. I gess tilt is just part of the game, and how you deal with it makes you a good player or great player.

Wow, Extremely Helpful.
I have been loosing a lot of free rolls on the bubble area due to tilt. I have enough chips to at least suck out for .20 or .50 and I get risky. I'm trying to start working bankrolls and I'm not acting smart. Very Easily I could get myself free entry to the ferguson with these small winnings that are assured with 100paid places. I am a good poker player but im not use to this tournament size, so I am trying to tweak, and practice on these monsters. I defiantly think your article will help. Thanks!!!! |

Thanks for bumping. This was a good read. When I first started playing, this use to happen to me. Once, I was one of the chip leaders in a 60 player tourney, and was going up against another chip leader, with just a bit less than what I had... I had pocket Q's, and was playing aggressively. An ace came out on the flop, with all the cards unsuited. I bet, the guy called, turn came up, it was a low card, I bet higher, he called, flop came up, I bet small, the guy reraised big. I folded, thinking he had the Ace. I lost about 1/3 of my stack from doing that.
The guy showed his Pocket J's. I ended up losing about 5 hands later. I just couldn't get my head back into the game. I learned a lot from that tournament, though, and haven't let bad decisions on my part or bad beats get to me anymore. |

Trying to build my post count and heres a interesting read... Anyone here whos read this knows of the frustration that comes with big pairs getting cracked... what we all need to understand is that some of us are not professsionals and if u fill ur freetime with freerolls then dealing with the donkeys is part of the territory and in a freeroll if u dont have that luck factor then ur not gonna win
That simple |

I try not to tilt, but it happens to all of us at one point or another. When I tilt I lose most of my stack then I go all in with the little I have left, or I get sucked out on the river. GOOD LUCK ALL!!!!!!!! AND DON'T TILT!(try not too) |
